I am being terrorized by grey squirrels again... so set out 3 #110 in various configurations and so far, have taken 7 of the vermin. Here is the latest and great suitcase catch.

[Linked Image]

How the set was configured: Large screw-eye into door frame; Barker's #110 mounting bracket, #110 body grip, cashew nuts for bait.

Here are 2 of the 3 traps I have set.

I can't seem to catch squirrels. I put out a dz 110s with every type of bait you can think of in every position possible for 2 years now. Not one single squirrel. So I just get out the 22 and 20 gauge and knock off a few.

Yes, we have a season, but I live in the middle of town. I don't mess with them if they stay out in yard or in the trees... BUT when they come into my back porch ceiling, they are nothing but vermin.

A couple of years ago, I had them as bad as now and I caught 12 in 4 - #110... Here is the set up I used then:

[Linked Image]

Look at the right side of the ceiling, just inside the door and you can see the hole they have made in the ceiling. Once you catch the young ones, it becomes more difficult to catch the older smarter ones.
You can also see where they have removed the paint from the right side of the door frame.

Perfect set up.

Gave me the idea for a red squirrel that has invaded my trapping shed.

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

There have been posts on here before about snaring squirrels. I used that information to snare a bunch of squirrels that were pestering us. Brass or stainless wire, .025
or 020. Likely there are youtubes. Pretty simple and effective.

Catches were beginning to slow down and the older ones were becoming more educated. The pass through had become ineffective. So, left the 2 horizonal post sets as the were and placed vertical rail set
flat with cashews right under the trigger wires. The #8 catch (above) was in this set and so was the #9 catch this morning,

The Set.

How they grip, # 9

As I was resetting the trap after # 9, a squirrel came hopping up the sidewalk and at about 15 feet saw me, set up on its haunches and watched me until I moved. At that time there were still 3 more tree rats 50 feet away at the pig nut tree.

More to come...
