My wife has lost at least 50% of her kidneys and is on a restricted diet. It seems we are eating the same old stuff over and over. I would appreciate some menu ideas from those of you in a similar situation.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.
Thanks for the input thus far. Sodium and potassium are no-no's. Not much meat, she may eat a meat serving that is about the size of a deck of cards. No ham, pork must be lean, chicken and lean beef are okay., as is fish. Pasta and potatoes are too high in potassium. Believe it or not she may not eat broccoli. She started this around the beginning of March. I pretty much eat what she does as I don't want her to look at my meal with envy, lol. I lost about 12 pounds. I think she lost close to 20.

Renal diets are pretty bland no salt, no potassium little to no phosphates. We set it up with double proteins if your on hemodialysis. Lots of just meats, and rice. If you do potatoes like mashed potatoes if you soak them over night in leech out the potassium. Usually set up like 8 oz of milk a day better off skim or 2 percent.
I was reading through some of the recipes on the mayo clinic site
if butter isn't an issue chicken Paraclade this is chicken , garlic and parsley , you can stretch it with some asparagus and server it over rice omit the salt
you can also make this a bigger meal serving it over riced cauliflower for low carb. but it doesn't sound like she needs to avoid rice

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I have stage 3 kidney disease. I eat broccoli almost every day. I also like asparagus which I eat a lot of. What's supposed to be wrong with broccoli? These are my two favorite vegetables. The nephrologist I see said little or no sodium and to drink lots of water. I had a list to what to eat or not to eat and broccoli wasn't on the list.

My advice would be to do a LOT of research for yourself. Lots of info on Pubmed, that will lead you to other resources. Dr Ken Berrys book " The Lies my Doctor Told Me" is very informative as well.
We eat alot of fish and rice. I have to be careful on too much rice with diabetes. I truly believe living in S.E. Asia 10 yrs saved or prolonged my life due to leukemia and diabetes, hbp etc. Living an Asian diet I dropped alot of weight and was off diabetes med over there. I truly believe bland Asian diets have been keeping me alive. BLAND ASIAN not the all u can eat chinese buffets in usa. I also partake in coconut water alot. Cleans the kidneys. If I did half what drs wanted me to do I would be dead and my son would be orphaned. Far east meds and naturals are safer
