With the new internet we've got I'm looking at getting one of those Iptv boxes and subscription but I've got some questions. It sounds like there's thousands of channels. Is there a channel guide?

Usually they have a channel guide. They call it an epg. If it doesn't have one don't signup for it. Alot of them also include VOD. (Video on demand) kinda like Netflix. Make sure to get a trial before signing up. Usually the trials are free. If you like it signup for a month, and see how it goes. Don't make too big of a commitment until you're sure it's good.

Or you can get ROKU for free if you have high speed internet on your phone or computer and get over 500 channels for free.

if it is "free" , you're the product (advertisements)

Roku is a place to start in the US , not sure if you have anything different in Canada

Roku enabled boxes and TVs can also do the video services like Netflix , HBO max , peacock, hulu , Spotify music.

Pretty sure we got roku boxes here. I'll check them out. Got quoted a price of $140 for a Linux box and $130 per year for subscription but I was told it's not so user friendly. Me and the confuser are at odds 90% of the time so I'm not sure how a new fancy doodad and me will get along.

I can't imagine Roku is good at all if it's free. Ive never used it so I can't say for sure but people Who have told me about it say it's good for a door stop and that's about it. But hey, free is free and maybe it's good for a backup service. It is no cable or satellite tv replacement tho. I think that's what's OP is looking for.

All you need is a firestick or basically any android box. Most people use firestick 4k because they are nice and cheap. I have an Nvidia shield, it's the best of the best. But for just iptv it's overkill

Roku is sort of a platform for "free" tv with adds you can set up a lot of channels with adds you can also set up "channels" services like netflix that you pay for to be add free.

you can use a Roku enabled TV or box to connect to Amazon prime video also

fire stick is basically a small computer in a stick that you plug into the HDMI port on your TV , and Roku box is basically the same thing is a slightly different package.

here is an article with pictures of the screens to help explain

I use a Roku box and subscribe to YoutubeTV. YoutubeTV gives me all my local channels, all my favorite cable channels, and all the common sports channels. What it also gives me, that not all streaming services DO give, is the ability to record. Most everything I watch is on when I am not home to watch it... so without recording capability any streaming would be pointless for me. Something to consider. Cost is about $80/month.

Roku may be a great box for some. The Roku interface is what most people prefer over the firestick. I hate the firestick OS. There are just way too many ads and everything trys to direct you to Amazon services. There are better options then firestick, but it is the most popular.

OP is looking for IPTV and just a warning, the IPTV they are looking for does NOT work on Roku. Iptv you get 1000s of channels, the same ones you get when you subscribe to cable or satellite or YouTube tv, plus you get channels from other countries, US,uk,Canada and more. You get ppv movies, ppv events etc for usually around $15/month.
