all those hippies living/camping on the north side of the river are pigs. i dont know how anyone could live like that. They dont bother them.

Marty, I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve spent in my truck. I’d sleep anywhere my truck would fit. If I was on a long trip, I’d have a cap on my truck and something that resembled a bed. I rigged the cap up so I could lock it from the inside. I slept with a short barreled shotgun in my sleeping bag. I never had a problem and I’ve been all over the country like that. Even El Paso, right on the border. I used truck stops a lot. You have an all night bathroom if you need it and a place to clean up in the morning. Also, the security of a lot of trucks with sleeping guys around you. It’s a little noisy at first, but then the trucks coming and going don’t bother you a bit. I’ve woke up in cemeteries, churches, supermarkets, post offices and just about anything you can think of. Never got bothered by cops. Security guards a couple of times, but they let me sleep. Also, I used to trap during the days and coonhunt at night. I’d be tired all the time and just pull over wherever I was and sleep. Sometimes I’d get into a deep sleep and wake up and I’d wipe the condensation off the inside of the windows and it would take me a while to figure out where I was. Sometimes it good to get a night in a campground for a nice shower.

I saw awhile back. I seen on tv. This old boy would sneak in on public parks, and camp. I think the whole idea was not to be seen! Like a sniper. I guess that’s what you call stealth camping. yup, that is one way to do it.

I did alot of canoe float trips In Kansas and Iowa when I was a young man They didn't start as float trips I would paddle up stream more or less scouting then towards late afternoon find a secluded spot to set up camp do some fishing . An upside down canoe with a small tarp makes a real nice rain shelter and reflects back heat from a small fire real well. Camping next to a river edge under a canoe is never dull. Close encounters with Coons and skunks, beaver and rats swimming by in the moon light. Inevitably the beaver would tail slapp when your just dozing of. Field corn roasted on a bed of coals after a long day of paddling up stream and wading over shallows tasted pretty good. Couldn't tell you who's land I was on and back in those days I realy didn't care. Never got run of or had any encounters with land owners.

Like Gene, I hate to think how many night I have slept in a vehicle. I travel every week for many a Sunday night I'd leave and drive until I couldn't stay awake, pull over and sleep in the truck.
I do it on fishing and hunting trips as well. Last time was Thursday night, I drove 5 hours to get home from work. Switched trucks, drove another 2.5 hours to the fishing hole and slept in the back seat until 5 am.

I have slept in my pickup, just napped on the river bank lying on the ground many times. i never was hiding though. i think stealth camping is usually urban camping
