My grandson has never competed in athletics. He is a freshman in high school and went to track tryouts. Decided to take up pole vaulting. He is at the western divisional meet today. Has jumped 11’, trying for 11.5.

Eleven feet ties his school record for freshmen. Maybe he can break the freshman record.

He just cleared 11.5 ft on his second attempt. School freshman record.

Impressive. I’ve always enjoyed watching pole vaults - I would think it takes a lot of practice and courage to fly through the air like that.

Tell him “good job”!!!!

My daughter’s boyfriend is a junior in HS and he’s a great pole vaulter. Fun to watch for sure. I think his best is 14’

The top four boys all vaulted 12 feet, and all failed at 12.5. My grandson was awarded 4th place and the other three tied for first. They reached 12 on their first attempt and he did his on his second attempt.

He gets to go to the state meet automatically.

Bus ride home will take 90 minutes. Maybe a pretty girl will sit with him on the bus.

He attends a STEM school that does not have athletics. He goes to the public high school in his home district for track.

He will become an Eagle Scout soon. Seems to have his head on straight. Beats me badly at sporting clays with his 20 gauge. Is my only grandson.

Great achievement for him! Encourage him to continue...I'll bet he has skills in other track events as pole vaulting requires a lot of speed...possibly sprints or relays?

I was on my high school track team for the last 3 years of my school career .It was a great learning experience And gave
me the chance to go many places and do things I otherwise would never had the chance to . I did well in school as far as my grades .But I did not like itI would have been happier hunting ,trapping ,learning about nature and the outdoors However be a part of a team is a valuable time of your life

Nice! If he keeps at it and wants to go to college there is should be some scholarship money available.
