....open water mrats.

For those who think I never post anything on trapping or actually trap, some "good ones" that I found over the winter at an antique mall during a couple of visits.I love old but still functional Victor #1 LS for early season (and even ice season) muskrats. In sloughs with about 2 feet or so of water, place a #1 LS in a hut feed bed or a ledge where they like to sit and its usually "diver down" by next check. If the rat swims out into the water, the weight of trap takes them down before long and its all over. One of my biggest problems is that my 30 inch piece of 2x2 that the trap is wired to is down under the surface of the water and I sometimes lose track of where its actually located. Maybe I need to paint the top end some bright orange that will show up better under the water.

Now that we are "wet" again, with the snowy/wet winter and decent rains this weekend, the dried up sloughs will keep filling up enough that they will be colonized by muskets this year and have decent populations next year. I have a few years left in me wading around a decent bottom slough.

I think I paid about $8 (plus tax) a piece on these two at different checks of the antique place. They may not be actually that old but probably got grabbed in a box full of stuff from an estate auction of something.

I’ll take a strong 1 LS over a 1 1/2 LS or CS any day great holding power and no lever issues.

I like walking up a creek with a handful of #1 longs and a few 110’s. Reminds me of 1976……

#1 LS used in a blind set or pocket set is hard to beat for coons in my opinion. If the springs are strong they will be there waiting for you.

I prefer 1.5 for drowning weight.

Is $8.00 each a good price for them? It seems a little steep to me but I haven't bought any traps in quite some time.

Eh...wot?

Probably not a bargain but I really don't have to dink with them such as new traps. I'll just spray paint them and wire them up. I also didn't need to buy a dozen at a time. Anyway, its fun to find still functional decent traps in such a venue.

I’ve got a LOT of Blake & Lamb #1 longs in great shape if anyone is looking for any at less than half that price.

Good rat trap for deeper water, in places without tangles to prevent them from going down

They are the best in a Muskrat Marsh. You can carry a lot of them and set a marsh up quick.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.
