Great pic for memories Scott. Man that’s spoiling big time I sure don’t recall ever seeing a table or tablecloth in the field. Squatting on the shaded side of the tractor was the norm. The food was great however.
This must be a picture of the wealthy white privileged farm owner. None of whom I was fortunate enough to work for as a kid.

My dad had that same Allis combine and Farmall C tractor when I was a kid in single digets! Spend three days in a forty acre patch cutting wheat, and now they won’t even plant a small field like that! Brings back lots of memories.

I think it is an AC 60.I used one 14 years ago to do 30 acres of oats .Had to put lots of patches on the draper canvas and made a few sycle sections from some old IH sections . It worked slick ,I was impressed ! Thanks 330 .

Have that tractor (which my Grandpa bought new) and he has the combine(he bought 30+ years ago). Tough breathing running that thing.

That was before tailgating.

Those old canvas with the wood staves made great teepee's that would stand on their own. The black canvas was also very hot in the day time.

Think the Allis was a five foot header, that would explain the AC 60! Wheat harvest always came in right around the forth of July around these parts, and we had a wet spring one of those years when I was about six years old. Dad got the tractor and combine stuck in a wet weather spring out in the field. He walked home and I was the only one there, mom had gone to town. He loaded up the H Farmall tractor with chains, and me, and we went back to where he was stuck. I said, who is gonna drive the big tractor? He looked me in the eye, and said, you are, I haven’t got anyone else to help. My legs weren’t long enough to reach the clutch, but I slipped my butt down to were I was sitting on one cheek. Would have been good for his blood pressure if he had let me practice, but we jumped in with bot feet. First attempt, I didn’t take the slack out of the chain, and broke a link. He was bent over that, but wired it together, and we tried again. Second try, I took the slack out, but popped the clutch too fast, and broke his wiring job. I was learning all kinds of new words by that time, but he wired it again, with more wraps, and the third time was a win! First time I ever drove the tractor, much less the big one, but had rode many miles on them, leaning on the fenders or riding the drawbar. Worked myself right into a job!

Granny and mom fed us like that until the mid 2000’s. I have great memories of sitting around a lunch table in the 80’s and 90’s in a field or shed with 10-20 other guys and gals. They did it right. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, salads, pies, cookies, the works. We switched to sack lunches then bring your own by 2010. I miss the slower days when we had time to sit down for a hour.

Got me thinking about the good old days 330. Here is a pic from the mid 80’s harvest lunch. My grandpa is still alive so I know it’s before October 13 1987. He was killed in a farming accident. Man I miss those days. Thanks

Notice Ralph on the left side of the pic. Red shirt with a white cup by his chair. No shoes!! Took us until the mid 90’s to get him wearing a pair full time.
