A couple weeks ago a guy called and asked if I want some trees he was having taken down. He called a logging outfit and they wanted to charge him to take them away. I offered to pay him for them but he said just come and get them. He had a crew take them down so all I had to do was pick them up. I will mill them to build cabins at the youth camp. Would it be better if I pay him or give him credit for a donation to the youth camp?

If paying him, what is a fair price? I have about a dozen of these. They are roughly 22” in dia and 13ft long.

Donation seems appropriate since he said they're free.

As he has already refused payment, I'd offer him a sincere thank you and the credit for donating to charity.

He would probably value being recognized for donating lumber for cabins more than money seeing as he said just take them

If he told you to just take them, then just take them.
