How to dose a fox to treat mange? I've got a red fox family on my property. A recent trail cam photo shows one of the adults has mange. I'd like to provide treatment as there are not many fox around (and nobody close with chickens). I'm thinking of putting out hot dog pieces treated with Ivermectin. The coon and possum are going get some of it, coyotes maybe too, but I can see if the fox gets some via the trail cam. Dose level is a big question. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it’s mange and not just their summer coat? Fox look like crap this time of year.

Half the tail is bare on one of the adults. The other adult looks fine, coat is sparse but no bare patches.

It'd be easier to dose if you could catch it in a cage. The standard dose is 1cc per 100lbs.

A Vet worked out for Beagles, 1/10 cc for 10 lbs of hound. Remember it IS poison, and a Fox is fuzzy and looks bigger than it is.

You can inject a fox with 1/2 cc, sub q best, 1/4 cc won't cut it done 100s without any problem.

Coons, possum, coyote, and occasionally the neighbors dogs run the trail the fox run. Trapping the fox to administer an injection would be a problem. I can put out food treated with Ivermectin paste (horse wormer). I don' know of another source I could obtain but will investigate.

When I treat my Beagles I put a Dab on the tip of my finger and then smear that on the inside of a Polish Sausage. The Piece of sausage is about two inches long. I do that to every one of my Beagles about every 3 Months. Full grown not the pups.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

No way to control dosage when giving free choice on food. Might be hard hard to get fox to eat horse wormer too. In my opinion only responsible way to treat animal is to trap animal and treat directly. Some breeds of dogs are very sensitive to ivomectren.

Mix ivermectin with some gland lure and put it up on a stick a couple times a week.

Randall, a dab of what?

I was thinking about putting treated bait on a string hanging about 3' off the ground. Too high for coon or possum but within a fox's reach is the idea. Can't stop the dogs or coyotes but the trail cam should tell me what got the bait.
