Harvest futures (September) are $4.93 currently. Going to take a major event to push the corn market. However, in this crazy world, a major event is likely! See what happens. No need to stress over it, as a farmer, I’ll just focus on growing a good corn crop and getting it to the grain bins. Hold it until next Spring if need be.

Low corn prices are bad for growers, but good for me. I have to pickup around 100 bushels of corn this week and 3000 pounds of corn based feed next week.

Somebody always benefits from someone else's misfortune. Hopefully China doesn't benefit.

I don't wish I'll on anyone here but low corn prices are a major benefit to me, 3.00 corn may even allow me to afford another chunk of land.

Seems it happens every so often. Then wheat goes up , and down, and corn goes back up.
Soy beans are the same.
China will look for the cheapest price , no different than everyone else.
It will turn around when the seasons change.
I'm all for shutting down exports to and from China.

You shut the money off to china. And don’t let them bring in their goods threw Mexico and Canada. Things will change! Money talks!! And maybe, factories will come back. If people don’t mind paying a little more for their products! And I’m sure quality would be a lot better, for the money!!

I don't know that it is possible for the factories to come back the way things currently are, the factories in my area are cutting back not because of the lack of orders but because they can't get enough people to work who will show up on a regular basis to run at capacity.

I bet Brazil still uses as much nitrogen as they want to. Farmers in the Netherlands and Canada. Not so much.

It has already factored in to a 30 plus cent per bushel drop and it could be more, but we need to wait. If the dry weather continues that means planting will proceed fast and that is good for a big crop, but if the dry weather sticks around like some predict it may (especially the western corn belt then we may have the 3rd year in a row with below trend yields and that could keep prices higher but with lower yields. Same thing is taking place with beans as Brazil had a new record crop by a huge margin. Also corn imports to China have been down overall as they have slaughtered 10-15% of their swine herd to control the swine flu.
Brazil can sell corn and beans at lower prices then the US can and make a profit.
We had a wet March and early April. We have been drier than normal for 3-4 weeks and there is no measurable rain in our local forecast for the next 10 days. Germination can be a major issue if it stays really dry early.
Ist crop alfalfa is amazingly good with many starting to cut right now. With no rain in the near term harvest will go quickly but 2nd regrowth could really be slow. We will now be in a weather market for a while and not a political market. As variable as the weather is farmers can deal with nature better than the politics.
