I recommend you buy a brand that has a local dealer for parts and service. It sucks to have a tractor setting waiting on a little part that is not available locally when your trying to get something done before a rain. I bought a John Deere because there is a dealer 11 miles away.
This is of some importance. Not number one but its up there.
I have bought 2 Deere tractors, both used, about 10 years old or so when i got them and with relatively low hours.
I wanted to avoid all the unnecessary emissions stuff. The simpler the better.
First one was about 45 hp, a 4610, the one I have now is 31 hp, a 2720.
I have used the same grapple with both tractors. Don't use the mid mower or a snow plow so I can't help you there.
I do a bit of logging mostly with firewood logs cut at 8ft using the grapple. Personally I would never skid a log.
Larger 8ft logs, say a 20" sugar Maple log is pretty much max for the 2720. You can lift it using the curl but not the lift.
I like the smaller tractor myself as its easier to get around in the woods.
I have nothing bad to say about the 2720 its been a great little tractor.
Biggest downside to a deere and it might not be unique to deere is the prices for parts are ridiculous. The kubota guys will have to chime in and let us know if they are the same.
Luckily for me I haven't needed to buy any parts in a long time.
Its not hard to find a smaller compact tractor like OP is looking for used with low hours. When I was looking for my last one I found several with less than 100hrs that were 5-10 yrs old just like new yet.
And usually they are in very good shape as it seems alot of the dudes that buy these things just put around on them putting on approx 25 hrs per year and baby them.
