I like the look of birds-eye and curly maple on a flat surface. Will a person still see the figure if the wood was turned on a lathe? Like in a rolling pin for example. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I would say yes, and the characteristics of the grain would standout well. Just my experience with working with wood and as a carver.

Heres the wrist and forestock of one of my flintlocks, the curl goes all the way around. How the curl appears can vary greatly, depends on the wood and how it was cut.

My mom has a antique rolling pin made from Birdseye Maple. Dang thing is almost to pretty to use.
