I am at camp chasing spring gobbler’s for the last few days of the season. I figured since it was memorial day weekend I better do at least some grilling.

I’m having apple venison sausage patties with mixed veggies.

A big ol baked tater topped with: Butter, salt, shredded cheddar cheese, nacho cheese, bacon and cut up ribeye steak. They were soooooo good. I went to take a pic but my phone battery was dead lol.

No, not yet West Side. I’ve come close a few times this season, worked a good number of birds the first week when I had a new guy tagging along.

I had one gobbling off the roost Friday before dawn. I moved into about 75 yards and we were talking. When he flew he hung around but wouldn’t come any closer than 60 yards.

Eventually he got bored with the “hen” that wouldn’t come in and walked off 150 yards or so and started gobbling again. This pattern repeated for the next three hours. I repositioned five times. Finally, about 8:30 in the morning, he walked within shotgun range. Unfortunately, I was slightly out of position and when I moved the gun barrel slightly to draw a bead on him, he instantly saw me and ran back into the bush.

It was an outstanding hunt!

I was out Saturday morning and this morning but haven’t heard any more gobbling.

One day left…

Eh...wot?
