I have trapped on and off for most of my life but have never sent any of my furs off to auction but sold to local buyers. Well this year I decided with the advice from an old timer who I respect immensely, to send them off to FHA. Well this evening I got a call from him saying that our furs made it to the auction alright but due to a screw up never got registered and never went on the auction. So now what happens? I'm new and don't have an account yet but all my paperwork was properly filled out and sent with my fur and presume I'll get something in the mail. Do they hold them until the next auction? When is the next auction? Do I get charged for storage? I know there where at least a dozen or so others who had their furs on this truck but haven't talked to anyone else. Frustrating as this is not what I had expected for my first time!

That is unfortunate your fur never made it to the sale after being recieved by the pick up agent.
I have never heard that happening here and I have been shipping fur to auctions since mid- late 70s.

The next FH auction will most likely be in March or April 2024. Almost a year away.

I rather doubt they would sell your goods Private Treaty. FH deals in graded lots. Your fur hasn’t been graded and if it will be grade, there wouldn’t be enough to be of interest to major buyers.

What I find very interesting is that your fur was properly consigned but the FH agent messed up. I’d be asking FH for an explanation. If the fur was in the building, no excuse for it not being graded and on the auction. IMO!

They will offer it at next sale or make something up and pretend they sold them if they disappeared. Had coon not make it to a Nafa sale once and they were magically found for the sale i didnt want them on.

Very odd. Call Cheryl with your receipt in hand i.e. go direct to source for info. 1 705 495 4688 or e-mail cherylb@furharvesters.com

Be patient and nice as she probably juggling a few balls at any given moment.

Call the number for cheryl at the top of the page. Have your receipts from the agent with you and ask to have an account made. You will not be charged for storage.

This all assumes initial info is correct e.g. last receiving date was met? Posted info is coming 3rd hand from "someone" to scout's buddy to scout. 20scout advise as you may find out. Again find strange that fur that met a last receiving date did not make the sale.

If you ask for Cheryl they’ll probably say she’s busy, the first person to pick up the phone helped me set up my account a month ago. You need the # on the fur receipt and they’ll give you the password. Your mailing info they will also enter. Then at least you can see what you got there.

Did you drop at the most recent pick up in May? I know they were going to try to get the beavers on this sale, but said specifically that no other species would be on the sale (and they made no promises on the beaver since it was well after the last receiving date for this sale). If you dropped in March you’ve got a legitimate beef.

My understanding is that happened to several MN shippers. A biddy of mine told me it happened to him too. I was thinking there is no way that fur was going to make the sale in the short amount of time between pickup and the sale.

20 scout the next sale hasn't been scheduled yet. Wissmiss has it about right

So there were agents saying they could still get fur to North Bay well after the March 15 deadline? That’s rolling the dice, takes a month for a dang pamphlet to cross!

After further review I may have received bad information. My friend said they picked his stuff up 2 weeks before the sale, looking at the schedule it was 2 weeks before last receiving date.

Truck picked it up two weeks before the sale and made wuth time to spare. Crosspatch is right about 3rd hand info. Was told the person who was supposed to grade our beaver got side tracked with grading raccoon so our furs never got graded. I will give Cheryl a call and hopefully find out first hand the scoop. Thanks for all the replies, will keep everyone updated.

Just another reason my fur is sold in front of me. Be it a state auction or country buyer those two ways your not totally out of control of your sale. I shipped up north once ....learned my lessonS

As frustrating as it is to have fur far away and others controlling whether your lot(s) are held or sold or bought back or bought in PT I will always send a portion of my fur to the international auction or auctions. The percentage that is shipped will depend a lot on how things go at those outlets. If I send 10% of my say rats which are going for say $2.75-$3.25 locally and I have 300 then I am putting about 90-$100 at a place where others determine when and for how much. To my way of thinking the value probably never will be 0$, I don't think that is a high price for me to pay to learn more. Especially on grading. If the grading seems easy then from my experience the market is strengthening, vice versa when going south. That shows up in the local outlets in either wider dollar difference in the piles and the piles more aligned to value then to size and grade.

Awhile back I send 2 very nice Idaho cats both identical big toms along with other items. One cat sold for 1200 and the other went for 380..how do you learn to grade fur by sending it In?

Thanks for clarifying that, I thought that is what my friend said. "They picked up two weeks before the sale and they would be offered on it"

The chance of those furs hitting this sale was almost zero and now it is zero.
