One Happy Hunter by Fred Barrington
Safari Press - Limited Signed edition
$50

Barrington was the professional who took (among other notables) John Batten. He also married Batten's daughter. Much on hunting big trophies and the big five throughout eastern Africa.

As a professional hunter with Ker & Downey, the author hunted the length and breadth of East Africa during the 1950s and 1960s.

Interesting section on "Lion Men" as well as witch doctors and witchcraft.

Robert Ruarks Africa
$25

Enthralled with the African wilderness and its wild animals, Robert Ruark wrote hundreds of articles detailing his hunting adventures on the Dark Continent. The following excerpts, all taken from his magazine stories, are from “Ruark on Safari,” one of 31 chapters in Ruark Remembered, written by Alan Ritchie, the author’s personal secretary for 12 years.

"If ever a time and a place had a profound effect upon a man, that time was the 1950's, the place Africa, and the man Robert Ruark. In Africa, the author .finally grew up. .Just as Africa changed Robert Ruark, Ruark watched first hand as Africa changed itself, and not always for the better. Ruark witnessed the terror of the bloody Mau Mau Emergency, but he left Africa before changing political climates, uncontrolled poaching, and open warfare left a land desolate and hunters, seeking solitude, little to enjoy. [This book] spans the years from his first safari, when Horn of the Hunter was born, to a story published just two months before he died. These stories now appear for the first time in book form, presented with special permission from Ruark's heirs and estate, chosen for what they reveal of Ruark both as a writer and a man." .

Lost Classics Of Robert Ruark
$30

These are the magazine stories that Ruark wrote in the 1950s and 1960s, but were never published in book form. Some of these stories will make you laugh outloud while others will bring a tear to the eye of even the toughest disposition. Ruark was one of America's most enduring writers whose hunting and outdoor stories are timeless. His work transcends generations, and his words delight readers regardless of age. The Lost Classics will have you reminiscing of bygone days while you read about "The Old Man and the Boy, "Stories from Down Home," "The Boy Expands His Horizons," and "Papa Hemingway." The final section includes stories that Ruark wrote about himself and is entitled "Ruark on Ruark." Includes a lengthy biographical sketch by Dr. Jim Casada as well as a detailed bibliographical appendix on all of Ruark's books and papers.
