Depends on the tool.

For moldboard plows you want older ones from before plow become a dirty word. Ford 101 was considered the best.

Same for discs to a lesser degree. Massey Ferguson 25 is highly thought of.

Or a European plow as they never fell out of favor as much over there.

But plows need to be set up to the tractor in the furrow and most modern tractors are pto tractors not plowing tractors.

I have a 5 foot tractor mounted King Kutter rotor tiller I have used for 8 years now on two gardens 3-4 times per year. There size combined is about 5,000 square feet. We also use it for lawns. There have been two fairly large lawns put in with this tool. Totl size is about 2.25 acres. I don't have any experience with other tools or brands. We no longer plow our gardens, we use the bigger rotor tiller to work in the compost and I use my Troy Built bronco rear tine tiller to do final passes and weed between rows etc.

I have a Land Pride tiller that came with the Kubota and I say it is mediocre at best. Leaking seals almost from the get-go and th tine size only allows for a shallow tilling. I used to have a Maschio tiller. Now that was a darn good piece of equipment! Those Italians make pretty good equipment for small operators like me.

Maschio makes a multi speed tiller that I think would be about right for breaking ground without beating it to death.

JMO, but a tractor mounted tiller is to easily abusive to the soil. Stuff fares poorly in pulverized dust.

Keets- I'm in the same place... looking for box scrapper, land plane, 3 pt spreader, etc.
I packaged a Landpride Brush Hog and Tiller with my tractor- my neighbor has a King Kutter that he runs on his Deere and has had no problems with it. If you're looking for a tiller, make sure you understand the advantages and disadvantages between forward and reverse tine depending on where you're using it and soil type. I picked up a carryall at TSC and it married up to my Quick Hitch system well- I went with CID front forks- they were cheaper than Landpride with more lifting capacity.

A quick hitch if fine as long as you can make sure that all your implements are compatible with it. Mine are not as I run a bunch of older stuff. So I went with a "Pats easy hitch" system. .. basically automatic hooks on the lower arms. Together with my hydraulic top link I made its a breeze to hitch up anything that I want on the back of my tractor. If you are buying only new attachments I think the quick hitch is a great idea though.

If your looking for a box blade and a land plane, I just seen an ad for a Summit box plane. It's a combination of both. Looked pretty nice, but a nice price tag too.

UPDATE land pride vs king kutter, the 3 peices I'm buying were $2900 less in king kutter, until I got a 10% off from fleet farm good only today and tomorrow...ordered and done, I'm sure LP is great equipment, but I can't find enough complaints about KK to justify $3500 difference
