With poison hemlock going into full flower over much of the eastern US I decided to do a video about controlling it once it reaches this stage.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Anthony

Nasty stuff....I've seen posts here about a similar plant, maybe ? Cow Parsnip ? There's even Yukon, in the far western coast of AK, that has some bad stuff like these on his place...and his honeybees like making honey from those. He says they haven't poisoned anyone yet from using the honey...but he also says the fire weed starts blooming then they switch to that .

I don't know why each state doesn't cooperate with citizens and wage a huge war in getting rid of it ...with programs of incentive for land owners .

I don't think there's any of that out west here, but there are other things that can make people ill in touching them , too.

Thank you for the share .

How would a defoliant such as paraquat work?

Sharon, there is plenty of poison hemlock in western Washington. I'm even beginning to see knotweed in southeast Alaska; not good.

Not good stuff, waggler. In SE AK, I thought it was enough just trying to wade through giant devil's club up the slopes. Yuk.

Anthony, I think the Bat'leth is among the neatest weapons for any possible usage. Second only to the Katana, and Sai, only with a lot more points.

Turtledale - paraquat is far too dangerous for the average homeowner to use - it is one of the few herbicides that will put you in the ground if used improperly. In KY you have to be trained and have a special card just to buy it.

An edible relative, wid parsley,
There in the carrot family I've seen poison hemlock all over WYOMING and some traveling through Southern Montana

Yes, I have a pesticide applicator license. Living on a grape vineyard in NY we use many herbicides on a regular basis.
Paraquat works very fast and on most anything growing here. Thank you for your response

If you haul it off to the dump aren't you just spreading it? I guess burning it would be dangerous too.

Turtledale - it would likely work because it kills so quickly. Not sure what the label says about hemlock as I personally don't use paraquat.

Spike369 - If it is bagged it shouldn't spread anywhere once they bury it with 50 tons of other garbage. Burning it is not a good idea.

It's fairly thick in South Central Montana around Billings I used to see it quite often in the Hardin area .

I don't know anything about the wild parsley , it wouldn't surprise me if we've got that here also .

You're friend along the snare line .

I have it here. I thought it was a native plant.

We didn't have much of it in KY in the 1990s. It is everywhere now, especially in the road ditches and drainages.
