Decided to upgrade to a chamber vac. This one got excellent reviews and is half the cost of anything comparable. I've packed 20 or so bags now and it does work great. I was tired of spending big bucks on those specialty sealer bags. This uses plain 3 mil food bags. I got 1000 8"X10" bags off Amazon for $50. Can't beat that. Anyway. This thing weighs 61 pounds! Good grief! I quickly decided that I was not about to drag it out of the cupboard every time I wanted to use it, so I decided to build this little utility cart. Now, I can just wheel it around when needed and save my back.

Here's my nifty new vac packer:

I made the cart out of poplar. It's on hidden castors, so it just rolls around.

It has a double drawer. I made them with box joints instead of dove tails. The drawers, the top, and the trim is Maple.

Here's everything together. It turned out pretty nice, I think.

Wow!! I hope that you are happy and well served with that machine. I made the switch to a chamber machine a few years ago and have no regrets. This one comes in at about a third the cost of mine. I would be interested in a update after you get some use on it to see how happy you are with it and if it holds up long term. This machine should pay for itself in short order just in the difference in bag cost.

I went with a vacmaster 230 and put it on top of a craftsman rolling tool box. The drawers in the box store all my various sized bags and other supplies, and I have room on the top for a small work surface next to the sealer. I seal about 3500 pounds of meat annually with mine.

Thanks for all the positive comments, folks. It was a pretty simple build, actually. It only took me about a week from start to finish. My biggest problem is always getting a nice finish on something. That is my weak point. I really need to consider building a paint booth.

Cup gun and several light coats of polyurathene . Like glass. Us fast drying oil base on calm sunny days. Here are a couple of cedar chest I redid. I use semi gloss Poly. [Linked Image]

You could have put some golden oak or provincial stain on that before clear coat and it would have matched you cabinets better. But the design is super !!!!!
But that finish looks fine !!!

That's what I use. It's just hard getting a smooth finish where, no matter what you do, there is dust flying around.

Yea, I was not worried about matching anything. That's why I didn't use oak. This will stay in the closet unless I'm using it.
