Lots of different grades and makers not sure if the CMP program is still any option but it might give you a quick tutorial on them.

Last I saw cmp still had them. Different prices for different grades/conditions and manufacturers. Going from memory but 1100 will get you a Springfield with new wood and barrel. Gun shops and shows are higher.
You need grand specific ammo or load your own to grand pressure or you will bend your op rod.

I bought one about 4 years ago. A 1943 vintage. I believe it's the original barrel for $700. Deals are out there. You just need some luck.

I don't know what they are worth today. But I fired 1000s of rounds through the one I carried.

depends matching serial numbers , manufacture
throat erosion , metal wear , muzzle erosion
a Service grade , meaning shoot able within army issue requirements about 1000 to start but CMP is sold out
1150 + shipping + joining a club or shooting an Appleseed clinic will get you a good rifle to shoot but it will almost certainly be a mix of serial numbers but it will shoot.
a rifle in good shape with nice wood 1500 on the non CMP market is about where they start and go up from there
bought mine when they were still 750 for a good shooter service grade CMP mine is a post Korea restock H&R July 55 barrel and receiver with a June of 40 pre war production trigger group

You need grand specific ammo or load your own to grand pressure or you will bend your op rod. Hunting ammo needs to be loaded at 7.62 x51 pressures, 7.62 is rated at lower pressure than the 308

Sold one for $900 last spring ! Bought my new scatter gun with the bucks (mini 14 ) I love that Mini and have got it down to about 1.5 inch gun .I could find no real practical use for the M 1 so I made the trade .

I just checked cmp is not sold out. Infact they have more than last time I checked. They have some in 308 again and I think I will work on seeing in my info and making an order tomorrow. Grandpa packed a Grand with tank grenade launcher across Europe in the original 30/06. But I think a 308 would be better to have so any ammo can be shot out of it without damage.

I miss read the notation on service grade , it does look like they are getting those Philippine return guns out I was thinking it was only the expert grade and rack grade in stock. the 308 is a nice thing for easy off the shelf ammo , I know a guy with one and if I bough another I would go this way my 30-06 m1 load H4895 is 1gr heavier than my 308 load but obviously in a bigger case , it is soft shooting and still works on deer

Pete I'm not worried about me I can and olwould load my own grand 06 rounds. I'm thinking about after I'm gone and a grand kid or someone loading factory rounds and bending the op rod making the gun not reliable and selling it cheap becuse of it. Hopefully I'm around long enough to teach and train them but we never know what's going to happen.
The down side of 308 is I have 243, 260, and 7mm-08 allready and the potential to load one of the smaller rounds and shoot it is there when they are all out and multiple people are shooting.
