11 boxes of shells? In this day and time the shells may worth about as much as the rifle.

That’s a hard to find caliber in the 99 I have only seen a couple both were way out of my price range being 2500 or more the last was at Boones Fine guns last year, would have loved to add it to my small collection but at the time the price was a no go for me

That is the 375 "big bore"? I wasn't even aware it was chambered in the 99. The 99 is a nice gun, my one complaint with it is that most of them have the safety on the right side of the lever so that it can't be operated easily by a left hander. There are some that have the safety on the top where it can be operated ambidextrously, but they are not as common. My mom's first deer rifle was a 99 in 308 and she still uses it today. I used it some as a kid (not that much due to being left handed and the safety issue) and I found one just like it a few years ago that I bought for myself. 308 and 300 Savage are the most common calibers I see it in, and I know the few I have seen in 250-3000 Savage command a premium, I'm sure the rarity of the 375 would also.

it isn't any longer than a 308win
and it uses the same head as a 30-30
at 5Kpsi less max pressure than 308win

so it is mostly just cutting a chamber and larger bore barrel difference

I've used one in a Winchester model 94, and reloaded them for a friend and a cousin owned them in the Winchesters, just never knew Savage chambered it in the 99. Or really that it was ever chambered in anything but Winchester's 94

Wasn’t “big bore” winchesters thing? I’ve seen 307 “big bores”.
And yea, it pick that sucker off you quick if you were in Canada. Never heard of a 99 in that calibre. Was it smithed to 375?
Search a few gun sites for prices…..you might find ammo, but probably not the gun…lol.

Another thing is the actual value of the gun, and what people will pay. There’s alotta $3000 guns out there that aren’t moving, to the right buyer/collector it’s worth it. I would just hammer bear with it though.

the funny thing is on collectable guns , it is surprising how some people don't want the ammo

was at a shop the other day the guy was filling out his collection of a particular rifle this one was the last caliber he needed 300savage I think , he left 5 boxes of ammo at a really good price on the shelf and left with the rifle , I don't think the intension was to ever shoot it.

foreign concept to me but I guess some people do it that way

Interesting rifle. I didn't know Savage chambered that round either. The Winchester Big Bore was the only one I knew about.
