This is not earth shattering but I find amusing. Bug experts are dropping the common name of a destructive insect because its considered an ethnic slur: the gypsy moth. They can float like a balloon for miles, wandering like the group of people they were named after. They will be known now as Lymantria dispar moth caterpillar.

The woke bug folks should have renamed them Liberal Moths...they crawl around, mess up their world, crawl away and hide away for awhile, then take off for a few years...after the world returns to normal, the Liberal Moths come back and mess everything up again

Maybe the Japanese are honored to have a beetle named after them. It can work both ways. On a side note, remember how savage the Japs were to our troops on the Bataan Death March? Japanese beetles act similar to my roses in a cruel and destructive way.

Pa is home to some of the nation’s best hardwoods, and also to the gypsy moth. Red and white oaks are their tree of choice here, In past years, infestations were horrible. Every single leaf gone….even ate the needles off of the white pines. At night when it was quiet, you could step outside and hear them chewing leaves off the trees. The state is spraying with BT now, so their numbers have been more manageable.

The forest service was wanting to spray whole lots of forest around here including private land as well. They had done studies to find the most populated sections of moths. Some people voiced concerns and the project is on hold for now.

I've never heard anybody around here voice concerns about the spraying of gypsy moths
