I have a couple guys I need to work on the house I’m building and they need some plans. They probably want a little more than my graph paper.

Is there a site or app I can use to create a basic sketch of my house and the rooms I want in it?

your local lumberyard should have a person there that can draw it up properly, usually free if you buy your materials there

Used to be that way here, I used to do my own prints for houses and additions. Now you need a licensed architect to draw up plans and they have to be approved by the township zoning and code enforcement entities for any little project.

I guess that’s one benefit of living here. I could draw it up on a napkin. I need a permit for electrical work but I can even do it myself. I’m no Ben Franklin though.

If the guys you hired are any good a floor plan ought to be enough. You could do that yourself. I would think in rural MT you wouldn't need permision from a bureaucrat you don't even know to use property you own. I have never bothered with that nonsense here anyways.

Danny, I don’t need them at all. It’s not required. But I want to be able to send the plan to the plumber so he doesn’t have to drive 80 miles to look at something. I’d rather he just look at my plans and give me the estimate.

There are several simple CAD programs online. Some will even create 3D views that you can "walk" through. Many of them are free

Room sketcher is a free program that is easy to use.

Last house I built was designed by a licensed architect. I then had to have the plans stamped by a licensed engineer. The engineer always made a few changes. Mostly he specifies LEM lumber in critical places and rafter ties. Sometimes he adds pillars to the foundation under stairwells. Money well spent.

I’d be afraid of what else we’d do!
