I have been using it for three years now and like it. I was wondering the reason or reasons some of you don’t like it.

A lot of people have it fail on them because there are a lot of tricks/tips needed to get it right. Ethanol gas cannot be used, high humidity is bad, dry time is too long for some people, etc.

For the record, I liked it just fine but it was cheaper and easier for me to go the tremclad acetone method.

Just curious Grandpa T do you use the black or brown?I could never get the black to dry but the brown dries fine for me.I still have some black I’m trying to use up and dip in black then brown a day or two later and it dries fine.

I have used the brown for probably 20 years on most of my traps. I just did 16 dozen the last week, with our hot, dry, low humidity (drought) here it was the right time for me. I take and mix less then half of the recommended amount in premium gas and the solution is very thin. With this cncentration I dip them two times and this level or concentration gets me 3-4 years before I do them again. I use a file and exacto knife to clean out the pan notches and the dog top and end. If one does not clean those out when putting the trap in water or even dirt they will fire way too easily, especially when in water. I used about 1.5 quarts to dip 200 traps and about 4.5 gallons of gas.

I believe I have used the black each time. It does take a long time to dry even out here in the less humid West. I use the dip when it I know is going to be at least 90 degrees and sunny for a few days. Even then, after one week the dye on the trap can be still a little tacky. This is a down side of Speed Dip. Maybe the Brown Dip would dry faster. Does the Brown dip get the trap as dark as the Black dip?

I've used on traps that are in storage or traps used in the water. The only thing I don't like about it is that it can be hard to remove if needed.

The key to Speed Dip is to mix it thin. I think the directions on the can call for a 4 to 1 mix. 6 to 1 is much better. Even 7 to 1 is ok.

Do it in the summer with low humidity and use coleman fuel. Hotter and windier outside the better.

No such season here. I tried Speed Dip 2x and both times it ended up sticky. Like it never flashed off. Rustoleum and acetone works well for me.

Why doesn't it say this stuff on the can?

Certainly understand ya'lls frustrations. I dipped a couple dozen new traps after they rusted here one November as I was in a crunch. Things gummed up and never dried, messed them all up. Dirt and everything stuck to them. Had to get it off, and then just waxed them.

But, in summer time here, it works pretty good. After about a month of hanging in 100 degree temps and wind blowing they turn out dry as if it was painted on.

Mike, I can certainly see how it would have limited use where you live. Works best for me hot, dry, and windy. Which is what we always get here in the summer.

It's nice because it doesn't require gas.

Question why not just use rustoleum and acetone ? For land and water traps

That's what I was going to say, use Coleman fuel. More spendy than gasoline, but they definitely dry faster.

I don't care for it, I like wax.

I bought used traps once that were dipped, bunch of rust under it, never again. Now I ask if they were dipped or waxed if I can't see them before buying.

I dip some traps in brown over month ago. Finally got all them went thru an put away . I hung 3 days outside. Kinda humid out. It might been mixed 6 to 1. I guessing, as had store in cans of latern fuel mix from last year. Didn't add latern fuel to it as want it thicker. IfTo thin, It don't seem like really does metal alot good. It runs off heavier surface rust spots . I never dip twice. Might be better coat but was thinking it just take some old dip off an not do a lot good. So after 2 days I took half spray can of ultra flat camo brown an touch up the spots. Mostly on jaws of footholds where dip didn't do lot good. They a look pretty cover now. It seem like most tags that roll around chain
Had use solvent to clean off tag. To read . The tags not roll on chain on connibears. Mostly readable. I think lot this is because newer trap tags are not engraved nearly as deep an hard read after dip or outdoors for long time. Had replace some tags as unroll an roll much at all an get creases an crack. They are always a little tacky an sticky in hotter weather. By fall ok, I clean dog off in connibears with round file an flat file on some dogs on footholds an use sandpaper on jaw dog contact points on connibears . Or sandpaper dip off on pan notch on footholds . No idea what protects metal better. Paint or dip ? I am thinking paint is better ? Does dip really penetrate the rust on metal ? U can slow the rust but can't stop it unless remove it . U got have some protection on metal . Kinda a fun job. Dip traps
