Timber. There was kids in the area, so unfortunately my son had to dispatch. Skin may go on the back of a bow. We ate the rest.

Keith, WhiteCliffs, Range - Great shots. Thanks for contributing. I know very little about snakes from other areas. Good to see pictures. Thanks.
Chancey - Yes! I'd love to see some Texas specialties!
3togo - On the rubber boas, a 2-footer is good-sized. They have a slow metabolism and consequently, very slow growth. Incredibly, a two-footer may be 50+ years old! Because of this incredibly old-age, I move every one I find, off the road.

I wish I could post a picture of the Coachwhips we have around here but I never get that close. Those things can all but fly.

Oh yeah, until I saw them in action, I would have assumed someone was exaggerating but no. They can flat out move.

Those garters love toads. I seem them often having dinner. Love the black rat snakes. We have many around here. All that we catch and remove from jobs come home with me. Those black rat snakes were in a friend of mines pigeon loft. He was complaining that a snake was killing his pigeon squabs. The snake would constrict the squabs and try to swallow them and then spit them out, because they were to large to swallow. I looked up and said "I suspect it's those 2 screwing (except I used a different impermissible synonym) snakes!". He didn't understand what I was talking about and why I was laughing so hard, when he asked me several times, "What screwing (synonym) snakes!" I pulled the snakes, which were in mid-coitus, down from the rafters. He wanted to kill them, but I talked him into letting me take them with me. I let them go here. Keith

The hognose snakes in the pictures are playing dead. When startled they flatten like a cobra, rattle their tails like a rattlesnake and then strike repeatedly, without even opening their mouths. If that doesn't work, they throw up their stomach contents and roll over and play dead. If you turn them right side up, they roll back over and play dead. Hognose snakes mostly only eat frogs and toads. You can trick them into eating other prey or meat by sprinkling frog juice on it. A friend of mine sells tens of thousands of dollars in frog juice annually, just for reptiles that eat amphibians. Over half of my income comes from selling food for reptiles. Many US zoos buy product that comes through me. Keith
