I shot all these last night in two of my barns, plus a couple of more, all while they were climbing higher than my head. I didn't cook them up though. I put poison out for the shaved tail squirrels, but can never get them all with it. The coon started being a major pain in my rabbit barn and had to go. It's partner in crime got away, but I'm going to gun for it tonight. They overturned cages, pulled out and threw around the empty bagged up rabbit food bags, knocked a dozen plus water bottles off, pulled the lips off of a rabbit and pulled some young rabbits through the wire.

It's pretty much impossible to keep rodents out of 50 plus old barns where thousands of birds are kept. The best you can do is keep the rodent population low.

I didn't mean to sound like I was disparaging eating squirrel. I like squirrel a lot, especially prepared the way you do. We have lots of fox squirrels, less reds and a very few grays and I hunt a fair amount to eat every year.

Last night, one of the mulberry trees I walked by on the way back to the barns was full of flying squirrels, around 6 to 8. I knew we likely had some on the farm, but it was the first time I ever saw any here.
