I'm sure I'll ruffle some feathers with this thread,in the last couple days i've been hearing about wolves eating and catching spawning fish. They have been studying this for a couple years, interesting yes,but I cant believe how surprised these people are.Wolve's are opportunist, they eat just about anything fruits, berries, insects, bear baits trail mix etc.deer fawns and adults calves etc.fish are high in protein ,wolves ,bears are carnivores and spawning fish are easy pickings so of course they will eat, hunt or what ever you want to call it,they eat to survive. Now that I ticked off some of these study groups of there amazing find,I'm out of here, have a great day.

Morning Rick, what amazed me was videos of DEER eating fish. I saw that a couple of years back. We outdoors people get something in our heads and can't let it go.

40 years ago I was looking thru some deer studies out of PA and saw that things as odd as a gizzard shad and a Rufus sided towhee had been found in deer stomach content analysis.

Heck, there are videos on YouTube of deer eating Quail eggs and hatchlings

I wonder if studies were not agenda driven how much greater our base of knowledge would be.

I had three deer who came nightly and nibbled at beavers in my carcass pile. They would stay 20-30 minutes at each visit.

I bet the number of true carnivores and herbivores are a lot lower than traditionally believed

The ancient ancestors of white-tailed deer had canine teeth that looked more like fangs. That genetic feature still shows up today. I've seen 3 deer skulls over the years that had canines.

Deer were eating my wife's hostas. I bought her a deer spray to repel the deer. She sprayed it on the flowers and it turned them brown.
I told her she should have sprayed the ground around the plants, not the plants themselves. Well...............at least the deer aren't eating them now.

Was out in western North Dakota a while back and came upon a ranchers bone pile. Went by there a few times and there was always deer eating on some of the bleached bones.
