Looking for advice on plank flooring like the click-in type flooring that floats. Any advice on the kind to get and any tips suggestions.

I wouldn't put down ANY click together down.
Glue down only. More work/$$ but ..

Do you install flooring for a living and any tips with going with glue down method. Do you have a subflooring to install before installing the floor.

I did most of my last house (slab floor) with the click on type. It was Pergo from lowes. Very impressed with it. It held up to the abuse of 3 baby's and a hound very well. Ours had a thick built in noise barrier padding.

Make sure you use the specified vapor barrier thickness. If your flooring has a thick sound barrier built in just use the vapor barrier. If it doesn't then you'll need to buy the vapor barrier with sound proofing which is expensive.
Use a finishing saw blade to cut
Don't give too much expansion room. A quarter inch can be too much. If there's too much expansion joint can separate.
Have your planks sit the area you plan to install for at least a few days before installing. Open at least the ends of the boxes. If not the entire floor will bubble. I've seen and walked on those floors
Have more than enough around 25% extra
Follow the directions and it will come out great

They come out awesome if done right. If not it's constant issues.

If you use the vinyl floating floor, you can not put carpet over it down the road. Have to tear it all out.

I put it in my basement about 5 years ago-no issues with it at all.

We do have it thru our whole house - 7 years now. No issues.

We did the whole house too, over 5 years and no problems, but it does scratch white , especially in this sandy soil here, you would think the manufactures would make the core brown or tan so the scratches don't show....

Cortex flooring. It's waterproof, won't scratch. It does float and we've had no problems with it at all. This is the 2nd house we've put cortex in. 15 years 1st house no problem 5 years this house no problem.

One more question for now, but I have plywood under the carpet I want to install the flooring. So, will I need to have a fabric laid down before I start installing the flooring??

Depends on where you are putting it.
I much prefer egineered hardwood. It looks nicer, is FAR more temperature stable and resists swelling and delamination much better than vinyl stuff. It is also refinish-able and comes with a 30-50 year warranty depending on application.
I would avoid glue down flooring in your climate. Cold and heat will cause a lot of expansion/contraction and "something" has to "give".

I really like Khaar's brand. A bit pricier than the vinyl. I have hickory in the kitchen, oak in the bedrooms and ash in the main rooms

I have had pergo vinyl laminate in my basement for about 5 years still looks like new. I always use the pergo gold underlayment. It is pricy but works very well. Half my basement flooded last fall due to a hot water tank issue and the vinyl laminate was not phased by it.

I went with Shaw LVL wasn’t horrible in price, they’re based in the USA, I would only buy it with the pad already on it, it makes things a lot easier for installation.

the only downfall about click in is if you get a damaged peice in the middle, you have to disassemble the floor to replace it

Suggest you ask the dealer for references. Visit someone and walk on their floor. Some are loud.

Plywood subfloor no need for fabric. Some of them have a very thin sound proof barrier which is like a foam and you'll need an underlayment. some of which have a built in moisture barrier. Underlayment can be just as expensive if not more than the flooring.
This is one thing I'll say read the instructions for the best results. I'm sure you can download the instructions for the flooring you want.

When I got mine I wasn't planning on it. I went to lowes for something and they were having a sidewalk sale which had 2 pallets of top of line pergo flooring (4.99 sf) I paid like $0.35 sf so I bought both pallets. I remember the instructions had different requirements for both subfloor and slab. This was over 10 years ago and I had never done it. The floors came out great and looked brand new after several years of high use.
We just dust mopped and used just water to mop them.

Side note... darker color will show dust much more

The "LifeProof Vinyl Plank" at Home Depot is quite popular with my customers. I've not heard any complaints. I do flooring measures/estimates for Home Depot so I might be a bit biased.
