Catch a very rare color walleye for my area. It was much bluer than photo without any of the common gold/brown coloring of all the many thousands I have caught, though some have been quick light with very silver hue. I have heard/seen of this color from some locations. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/06/full-6191-179927-img_0644.jpg)

blue eye means its blind in that eye. They don't need to see to feed. White bottom of the tail says walleye. I think ment blue 'eye not blue eye as in the walleye's scale color is blue. That said its pretty neat looking and I'd almost agree saugeye with the slight saddling
Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Yes, it was a very blue tinted iridescent walleye(white tail spot and no rear dorsal fin blackspot) but highly probably a stocked fish as seasonal removal netted rearing pond fish are released at this lake to lower predation on next batch of fry. It is noted by a dominate age class approx 1-1 1/2 lb fish in a lake that that has poor natural reproduction but good survival habitat for carry over. It was a color that would VERY difficult to put on a mount and not look howkie. I couldn't even get a photo to do it justice. It almost glowed blue and like a blue bird feather light refraction was what showed it. Have heard of some Great lakes that produce them, a unique color morph, also called blue pike.

We caught this blue walleye in 2006 on one of our Canada trips. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/06/full-4649-180044-blue_walleye_1024.jpg) We've caught a few since then, but none as blue as that one was!

Cool catch, DrakeJ. Back 50+ years ago, my Pappy went over east to ice fish with a bunch of his cronies in a motorhome. It was an epic trip, and would have been a blast to go along as a pup. Surprisingly, they all survived and made it home in one piece, what with there being no such thing in those days as a "Designated Driver". The one take-away I remember was they found some farmer with a small lake on the back of his place and he let the whole band of misfits icefish the lake and the Old man caught what all the Canadian old timers called a Blue Pike. I guess they thought it was one of those that used it be in lake Erie. Looking back, it was likely one of those odd-ball colored regular Walleye like those pictured above. They ate it.

Do they stock saugeye (sauger/walleye cross) in Minnesota? No

Drake, did you eat that guy? When we caught that one, we thought about how cool it would be mounted, but we passed on the idea too. When we got back to camp, the guides there said they're not uncommon and they get them from time to time. After that, we never got another one like that one, and we wish we would have put that one on the wall!
