Anyone else look at traps and trapping gear as a investment? Bought alot of high quality gear a few years back that I had no intentions on using. Just keep them up and put them in storage and when I wanted one money for something I'd sell em. Bought probably 50 duke 1.5s from a musk rat trapper for like $3 a pop add probably 2-3 bucks to each with mods being just laminations and swivels and re sold most of them for $10-12 a pop. Could have made more eoff of them if I bent my own lams but egh . Yep. Lot of the higher end traps I have are nearly double the price today then when I bought them.

I hope my wife sells my gear for more than what I told her I paid for it.

I was at "Bumpy's" trap collector get together today and many good, used traps were cheap in my opinion.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Not sure why, but when I see old traps for cheap, I usually buy. I’ve got old #1.5 long springs from a garage sale a couple weekends ago. Treated them and they’re hanging in the garage. This morning, I’m adding wire to 330 safeties that I just got and getting them ready for a bath, when I see 20 old long springs hanging there, and I’m thinking “when am I ever going to use those”. Probably never.

I forget which notable trapper said... "Never sell your traps, or guns".
Words of wisdom, IMO.

Thinking I’ll never run the same amount of traps that I did in the past for several reasons but I’ll still trap just not as much, the days of working full time and trapping full time are past me now. I have a buddy that put price tags on his trap collection traps so his wife has less stress selling them when the time comes and she’s not taken advantage of.
I don’t see leaving the wife a bunch of valuable traps that she knows little about as good for anybody but the next buyer maybe, just no good outcome to it. I give away a lot of traps to kids programs every kid gets a few to take home mostly smaller traps for liability reasons I don’t see giving big traps to little kids starting out.

I'm old and infirm. Don't want the wife (Miss Lisa) to have to deal with a thousand old, rusty, traps. I'm now in the mode of giving away the entire collection, hopefully to youngsters that'll put 'em to good use. Miss Lisa requested that I leave her a few marten boxes and Belisle's and stretcher boards, along with a few livetraps for skunks, etc., as well as a few fox footholds so she can whack a few chicken-killers. Pains me no end to see the sunset in sight. Those traps have been a big part of my life for fifty years.

I have sold close to 300 that I don't use anymore and never would have. I still have about that many that I hope to use. I do still use my beaver traps.

I have at least 400 foot hold rat traps. I'm sure I'll never go back to ND and with the rat market In the toilet I should probably get rid of at least 350. I have about 100 coyote traps and with $5.00 WI and no sale coyotes I should get rid of all of them. And just keep my CRs. I have to keep my 160s for my chuck trapping and my colony traps for my ADC rat work. Maybe next year I'll sell all the rest of my traps.

Careful selling. You may regret it. If you ever wanna get back into it, it’ll cost a small fortune!
