5800 is extreme!y high, but as you found out this newer stuff is a nightmare to work on. That comes to over 350$ an hour!
There's absolutely no reason for vehicles to be made the way they are today. Complete stupidity from our college educated engineers.
There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

It ain't just GM doing that. To change out the starter on my 2000 Toyota Tundra it is buried under the intake manifold.
In the 60's I used to enjoy doing mechanical work. Then the race for making things harder to work on exploded. Heater cores behind the air conditioners being a pet peeve. Changing the battery on some sounds like a real nightmare and this is before they are to change to all electric.

Try to pull a front head light! Have to darn near tear a truck completely apart to fix stuff now. I feel your pain How bout it!!!! I get into this about daily, and I lose my religion pretty regular to put it mildly.

There are always morons that want to blame the engineer any time their toy needs a little attention.
How many miles on that beast? In my opinion 15 hours to replace a part that has given a couple hundred thousand miles of service is well engineered.
How much other maintenance has it received? Plugs? points? brakes? exhaust? Lots of the common wear parts that needed constant maintenance back when... people never even need to think about today. Why? Because the vehicle had been scrapped long before it got enough miles to need the repair.

Why? Because the vehicle had been scrapped long before it got enough miles to need the repair. Maybe you aught to do a little research on Chevy 2014 5.3 liter motor and see how well designed that egg sucker is. Nice engineering on the cutting it back to 4 cylinders when you’re driving it to supposedly save gas. Trouble is it also cuts the oil pressure back when it does that and burns your lifters and cam up. Most of those motors used 2-3 quarts of oil between oil changes when you drove it off the lot new. Took mine back to the dealership with 18000 miles on it and the fix was to put different heads on it, new cam and lifters. It still used 1-2 quarts even after that so I traded that peach for a Ford. Under stand there is a class action lawsuit that is pending on that year’s motor. They also have a problem with that year burning the transmission up with less than 100000 miles on them. My son in law and daughter bought the truck used off a Chevrolet dealership lot 7 months ago, with 87000 miles on it. They paid an additional two thousand dollars for the extended warranty. 4 weeks ago the transmission went out and the dealership and extended warranty people stalled them 3 weeks before they put a replacement transmission in it. That’s about the time it popped the po6dd code and told them it needed a new oil pump. So before you go calling people morons, do a little research on that year’s motor and transmission and tell me with a straight face that it wasn’t poorly designed by some genius that is highly educated in the automotive industry. If any of you buy an extended warranty read the fine print and understand what it exactly covers. The one sold to them by the dealership did cover the transmission minus the 500$ deductible after they got done arguing for 3 weeks without a vehicle. They would not cover the oil pump as they said it was normal for them to wear out with less than 100000 miles on them. Have a stellar day.
