I have down loaded 2 quite old movies from online that are in a MP4 format... I want ot be able to play them on DVD player through my TV What would be the best format to convert them to?

I have the VLC Media player/converter program to use.

The one movie has been band because it is alleged to be racist, which IT IS NOT. For those of you that are older might remember it... "SONG OF THE SOUTH", (1946) and the other is a bit newer by a couple of years, "SO DEAR TO MY HEART", (1948). I believe these are the first 2 movies I ever saw.

Both movies starred Bobby Driscoll as the young boy.

Why not play it in the MP4 format ? If your computer has a DISPLAY port and your TV an HDMI port you just need a cable that is DISPLAY on one end and HDMI on the other end. OR.....IF your computer has an HDMI and your TV does also........all you need is a cable that is HDMI on each end

I tried one other time playing mp4 format through my DVD player connected to tv and it couldn't recognize the format. As far as cable... I use a desktop computer so I would have to have 25 or 30 feet of cable... if I had the connections.

Thank you White17, I have that converter... It does a good job of converting. What I didn't make clear was I need to know which is the best format to convert it to, so it can be watched on DVD Player connected to a TV. I have made them before and the Player or TV wouldn't recognize the format and I would end up burning 3 or 4 DVD before I found one that would work. I thought I wrote down someplace, what I got to work but can't find where I wrote it.

I just tried burning one that I thought might be it and the 2 apps I have that burns them have expired... so, guess going to have buy a new one. That is the trouble with only doing it every couple of years.

Thanks again and anyone else that might know what the best DVD format for a video to watch on TV.

Here is the answer to my question and it does work...

MPEG-2 is widely used as the format of digital television signals that are broadcast by terrestrial (over-the-air), cable, and direct broadcast satellite TV systems. It also specifies the format of movies and other programs that are distributed on DVD and similar discs. TV stations, TV receivers, DVD players, and other equipment are often designed to this standard. MPEG-2 was the second of several standards developed by the Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG) and is an international standard (ISO/IEC 13818).
