Normally I pull my honey the last week of May or the 1st of June. However, this year I was unable to for several reasons. I was glad to get into my hives last week and pull over 110 pounds. Seems like the honeysuckle and clover are perpetually in bloom here so, I'm hoping to harvest at least 1 more time this year.

Looks good, I have 108 lb still in 5 gal buckets I need to get in bottles. I did get 26 lb in bottles from my first batch. I may get a couple med supers and a deep to pull yet this year. I sure hope so. I need to off set the cost of buying boxes for all the nukes I have running out of room. I'm geting more bees than I have time to manage and yards for. I get off work in an hour, in 2.5 hrs I will be home for the first time in days. Then out to do hive inspections. Would never have guessed I would get so into bees. My wife wanted them. I wanted nothing to do with them. Now I'm the bee keeper with around 23 colonies. I only wanted 10 to 15. Came out of winter with 7 and 2 over wintered nuks. I should not have bought that queen castle.

That's quite a color difference.

Any guessing on how much you will get on your next harvest? I was shooting for 500lb and not spending any money on be equipment this year. Well I will get under 200 and have spent and will be spending much more. I definitely want an upgrade from my 2 frame crank spinner and faster or more strainers to speed up the process.

It's all the same color as the jars on top. The light in the room makes the jars on the bottom shelf look much darker. I was originally shooting for 300# total for the year but I think I that was a little ambitious. If I only get to harvest 1 more time, I'll be somewhere in the 200-250# range. We don't take the Goldenrod honey, so we leave that for the bees to overwinter with.

My bees have just started to complete a few frames in supers. Our weather was very dry , and I don't think there was much flow until last week. Noticed a field of trefoil and sweet white clover, at the neigbours , They will be into that. How is trefoil, as a nectar source? I had a big swarm come into one of my swarm traps. Got them hived up yesterday, big yellow queen, don't know where they come from, Probably two weeks away from pulling honey. I have eight hives now. Started spring , with four. Have fun old243

It’s pretty good nectar source. Not extensively grown around here but you’ll see it mixed into some of pasture seedings. Nit sure if it’s still the case but UP of Michigan was where most of seed stock was grown in years past. Crossing Mackinaw Bridge for seed pollination use to be common. New honey has reputation Of smelling like wet hound dog

Nice work. I store everything in five gallon buckets, label the buckets as to when extracted. I normally get around 15 buckets in July, and another 10 at the end of September. Summer stuff is light, Fall is much darker ( goldenrod and knotweed ). I warm buckets with band heaters and blend the two colors, end up with a nice amber color.

I LOVE honey! As in I’ll take a spoonful or more a day! I swear my allergies disappeared since I started doing that many years ago. I don’t buy store bought, I buy from locals right here in my county or surrounding area.

I am not a beekeeper but allow a friend to keep 5 hives on one of my properties and he keeps me supplied with all the honey I can use. I have a huge asparagus patch (400 roots) and the flowering ferns are full of honeybees right now.

They allow some guys from up north to come down and set their boxes (guessing hives?) on the plantation. They keep them supplied in honey as well. Nothing out there planted except what nature provides.

Wanna Be> Are you in one of the areas that produces TUPELO honey? To me, tupelo honey is the best tasting, although locally produced honey is best for your health.

He sells Tupelo honey, but it’s not local. I only buy what’s “made” in our area. I’m in it for the medicinal purposes. When I used to travel to Kansas I’d have the lady that took care of us send me local honey before our trip. I swear it makes a difference in allergies, then again it could be a placebo effect. All I know is I no longer have allergies since taking honey.
