I What does your setup consist off ... pump wattage and such ?? I'm not sure without looking . Probably a 3/4 hp shallow well pump. 16 ft hand driven well. All the water I want to pump. Using a portable generator for power. 300 ft or so from my house. Everything works great , Earth berm along backside, sound wants to reflect towards small residential street. Trying to be considerate to neighbors. Looking to be as quiet as possible for late day watering cycles.

I'm pretty sure you can install a bigger muffler on it, and maybe part box it in. Boxing in is my thoughts. trying to find a winning design I do have access to 60" dia. plastic culvert pcs. But I'm sure airflow and heat need to be considered.

Find yourself a wood doghouse that someone is giving away on Craigslist or the like. Get one big enough to hold the generator. Modify it for access and ventilation. One way to do that would be to make the roof hinged to access it.
Cuts down a lot on cost and looks ok as most people would not object to seeing a doghouse.

Ok I can try some things Straw bales might be a good idea. I use for mulching too next spring. it's hidden in the wooded area behind the garden. Doghouse structure is a good idea too.

For a 3/4hp pump, all you need is a 1000watt generator. I would recommend the little inverter generator from Honda. it is so quiet and portable that you won't need any sound dampening around the thing. You could just put it in a tote and close that when not using it so its not out in the weather for long periods or just take it inside when done. I have had one of those for a number of years and put a lot of hours on it.

We'd put straw bales around our genset. Worked good and inexpensive.
