I got a lady wanting me to trap badgers for her. I’m waiting on NDOW to call me back and let me know what the legalities are as far as licensing etc. but in the meantime she wants to know what I’ll charge, and I have no idea. What would you charge for badger control?

Badgers can be a pain go high you can always charge less rather then get yourself into a losing situation.

She *says* it’s three badgers with a den just outside her property and they keep coming over into her yard. She has already talked to the owner of the property the den is on and they gave the go ahead to trap them. I was thinking a setup fee to cover my gas and time for two trips, one to set the place up and the one to check, and then a per animal fee after that. It’s 8 miles from my house, so I was thinking of charging $40 to set it up and another $40 per badger. That seem fair? Or am I underselling myself?

Set a time period so you’re not locked into a deal if they spook out of the hole. What damage are they doing that makes them a issue does that need to be addressed too?

Sounds like they’re just scaring her and she’s afraid to let her dogs in the yard with the badgers out there. The actual dens and diggings are outside her property line. I haven’t been out to look at it but that’s what I gathered from what she’s told me.

Sounds like if there are 3 of them, it’s probably groundhogs?

We don’t have groundhogs around, only rockchuck and they stay up higher in the mountains. I haven’t seen it yet, but just knowing the area I believe she’s probably right about it being a badger. I thought the same as Law Dog, probably a mother and two youngins from this spring. The game warden gave the go ahead for me to take the job so I’ll run out there this evening and check it out. Never trapped badgers on purpose, but they seem to like to find my very best coyote sets and destroy them so I might just set like I’m trying to catch a coyote lol

A snare in the hole is you friend if she has dogs and you consider the damage it will do when caught. You could transport them with a hog catcher and a cage it’s not as bad as it sounds. LOL

Go by what the sign shows you. In this area a stup and inspection fee is around 100(cheap)and per animal fee and if it requires travel like 50-60 miles 175,...they check them daily. Actual landowner permission required on paper.(here)Friends descriptions i rarely go on. Laws and cost vary

Oh there won’t be any transporting of live badgers lol. No need for that, they’re an unprotected species here so they will be dispatched. The only reason I contacted fish and game was to make sure I didn’t run into any legal issues by charging to remove them. There’s no law against trapping them year round, I just wasn’t sure if I needed some kind of wildlife control license if I was getting paid for it, but the game warden gave the green light.

I believe her yard is separated from the den by a fence, and it is in a very rural area so if I get there and there’s no concern over dogs I may end up putting a 220 or 280 over the den entrance, and if dogs were going to be an issue then go for the snares like you said.

But now she’s called and said something came up and she’ll call me in a couple days so we’ll see if she does.

Conis might run them off or move the problem not my first choice in this situation, what I like about snares is if they get bumped they don’t alarm the badgers and are critter specific just going to be a mess not as bad as a foot catch they often go down the hole a ways and stay there.

Good luck

your being way to cheap 330. free for friends and family. everybody else pays. if they balk at price give them a couple trap supply websites so they can do it themselves. spend years learning how to do something that knowledge has value
