I can but isn't there a service charge on the credit card?

most do not charge a foreign transaction fee for canada. I have used capitol one or cabelas up there for years and never had an issue.

Not on mine. It automatically does the exchange on my billing. Easy.

We use our credit card in Canada when ever and where ever we can, mainly so we don't have to travel with a bunch of cash. The exchange rate is always factored at the current rate, at the time of your transaction.

I feel that I have always been treated fairly in Canada on the exchange differences between US and Canadian funds. The vendors (restaurants, grocery stores & gas stations) like the business and I doubt they would purposely short change you and risk losing customers.

I recommend a credit card. When I need hard currency, AAA is a good source. They will order it at no cost.
