Brought the camera to work today.
Even though it was a steady drizzle, and 15c,the smoke from the fires was hanging thick in the still air.
Best thing besides no gators or snakes is-no bugs-they smudged out.Seen wolf and moose tracks though.

Setting mostly BGs at those crossovers/crawlouts?

Down here I'd put a foothold or 2 at that plugged culvert...if I could stand up there without bogging up to my thighs.

Setting the culvert is hit and miss, they dont always come down to plug it after MTO opens it up.If I only set the culvert I would be wasting time checking empty traps waiting for them to come back. They dont live in the lower pond.I clean them out at the upper pond where they live.
That particular creek is around 15 miles of beaver pond after beaver pond. Can tell by the house not many beaver there anymore.
Good beaver habitat, steady work,I think the guy that owns the line has around a 300 beaver quota.

Is there fish in that water, Boco? Looks like it should be full of Pike.

Interesting of some of that; jewel weed or Orange touch-me-not in that beaver crossing
it is the majour food source for migrating Ruby throated humming birds in the fall migration

Glad you changed the goose blind spelling, for a moment thought you had caught some cm220 virus

I dont know much about identifying plants unless i check my plant books, but it sure gets green and lush fast in the swamp by july.
Things start to turn brown in mid august.

BOCO if that is a registered line does the MTO contact the line owner first for action or do they directly contact persons like yourself to respond to their issues?

I am the nuisance beaver co ordinator for the area.Mto or any other complainant contacts the nuisance beaver co ordinator,The co ordinator checks the maps and the trapper lists to see if the registerd trapper who owns the line where the issue is ,is eligible for the job.
Eligibility requirements are that the trapper has harvested 75% of his beaver quota, and also has 5 million liability insurance coverage thru membership in the provincial trapping association.
If the trapper is not eligible under the criteria,or does not want to do the nuisance work, and has not designated a helper or other eligible trapper to do the job,the co ordinator has to dispatch a known competent eligible trapper to do the job within 24 hours of the complaint,or the co ordinator is required to do it.
There are vacant lines and Native lines.vacant lines fall under the protocol,Native band designates who they want to do the work on native lines,or on their community traplines.

Thank you BOCO. That took time for you. I did not realize how complex it can be but I am now better informed.

The Trappers themselves run the nuisance beaver programs
The council has a secretary that does the invoicing, the trapper signs off on the contract, the co ordinator verifys the catch and milage, then signs off on the contract, and sends it to the council secretary who sends the bill to the client. The council cuts a cheque to the trapper, and the council recieves the money back from the client at a later date-that way the trapper doesnt have to wait for any money.
Local trapping councils all over Ontario have been running their own nuisance beaver operations for decades.I believe our Council,CAFC has been doing it since the early 90s.Maybe before that.
The system works real smooth and the trappers have first right of refusal for any nuisance work on their traplines.
We have many clients that utilize the program since its inception, they are very happy with the professionalism and prompt reliable service.

it is also Illegal bylaw for any company to destroy a beaver dam or house on public land unless the beavers have been removed first.
Companys have the option of using an agent if they choose, and the Railway does use their own agent, and does not use the Council nuisance beaver program because of acess issues on the RR right of way.
RR is the only company or govt agency that does not use the Council nuisance beaver program.

Good info, so Boco is the trapper that rents/leases/owns the trapline where the beaver are causes issues paying for the work? Or does the money come from a GENERAL FUND of sorts?
You probably already spelled it out but I wasn't sure...thanks
