In SW Michigan the smoke from the Canadian fires has been pretty bad today. You see it at ground level and it blocks out the sun to the point that it was like a cloudy day today. Here is what has me puzzled, there is no wood smoke smell. The only way to describe the smell is like a factory, maybe a little burnt plastic smell but not wood smoke. Has anyone else noticed this?

Smoky here. Smells a bit like burning leaf piles, mixed with the stagnant dairy air of Wisconsin.

The worst day so far. Here's a pic my neighbor took today.

Here in SE Iowa its bad too. I can barely see my neighbors grain bin. Its a mile away. They are canceling HS ball games.
I noticed no wood smell too. Wife thought it smelled like plastic burning too. Its 563 miles from here at home to boundry waters.

Been thick as fog here on and off for weeks. Especially bad since Ontario fires lit up. Didn't notice it the last couple days because we got some much needed rain

Bad here in NW Wisconsin too, I had been noticing it didn't smell like a normal forest fire I have smelled in the past. More like a garbage dump fire.

We have it here this morning. It's the first time I've smelled it. Smells like burning tires here. Someone tell Boco to put out that cigar!.

Saw an interview of some guys working outside pouring cement in the Twin Cities this morning. The reporter asked one of the guys if the smoke bothered them much? He said most of them were smokers anyway, so no big deal! crazy

Most in this country have things people in other countries only dream about. Yet, they want America to be more like those other countries.

Ha Ha,that reminds me of my good buddy Glen(passed away now).
One night after a couple hours of cleaning fish, and sitting down to a fish fry,I seen him smoking a cigarette while eating fish.
I said, glen how can you smoke and eat at the same time.he said "I like smoked fish",lol

RIP Glen

I'm on day shift so have been inside the last few days. This morning around 9 I had to leave the plant and drive over to our on plant eye glasses store about 3/4 mile away. On the way back I was surprised I have never seen it so hazy here in my life. Then I saw air quality alerts and head lines about the fires. I would not have thought it possible for smoke from so far away to still be this close to the ground.

Canada better get their act together . Everyone may have to start riding bikes to off set their emissions.

None down here but I oddly just saw a comment from someone in NY saying the same thing.... that it smelled like chemicals/factories and not wood smoke. Only thing I can figure is that it's the chemicals they're using to fight the fires?

Mom and dad live 6 miles from me and she said she shut the windows cause she could smell it. I can see it for sure but can’t smell it.

It has a plastic/pine pitch smell to it.

It's strange for sure. You'll get a strong smell of wood burning, then it changes over to the plastic/pine pitch smell.

It's really playing havoc with my eyes.

Like a cloudy day here in mid Mo too! No smell tho, but we have bad air alerts for the state. Thrs and Fri we have heat alerts of feels like 111, and the smoke.
