Any of you folks from Mo. seen any poults yet? Im down south central and haven't seen any. Found two late nests the last week in the pasture but it seemed like they were laying instead of sitting. Not a full nest of eggs in either.

Conservation has said the wet springs the last 10 years have hurt population but were in a drought. I do a decent job of catching nest raiders around my place. I just wonder if something else is going on.

15 years ago I could drive around my section and count well over 100 birds. It makes the news if you see a flock now.

Waiting to hear what the experts say about Georgia’s population. This was our second season of reduced limits and later start time. I personally saw more birds riding this Spring than in the past. Seen several flocks of hens and poults. Seen flocks of gobblers with many that will die of old age if beard length and spur length is an indicator of age. Saw more jakes this past year than ever before. I know of a lot more folks that have invested in DP’s just to thin their coon and possum numbers as well. I’ve loaned out 4-6 DP’s to half a dozen folks myself. One young man borrowed 4 to put around a feeder one afternoon and sent me a pic of 4 coons the next morning, lol. Every little bit helps.

Seen a couple hatches in southern Illinois a lot of crops now so you have to get lucky and catch them in the open

They don’t parade the out in the open when that are small it seems like here once they are about 1/2 grown they leave cover more then.

I believe our coon population is doing just fine.

On a decent note - I did hear some quail calling from my house this morning.....that was a nice sound - been a few years since I heard them from the house.

Was at the farm today, had two hens under big cedar hiding or in the shade. I walked up to be about 20 yards away they had 10 between the two. About Banny chicken size.
