Let’s see some pics. Northern & southern beaver. How much wool do these buggers have in summer?

I will get a pic next one i get,and compare it to the underfur on a semi hvy and hvy beaver pelt (which are required for felting).

These were captured last week. Underfur on back and flanks...





There is not much difference in heft of these beaver from December to July except the guard hairs become thinner on the flanks and bellies in warm season....always short nap.

We may have uncovered one of nature's oddities.

Could be.It gets pretty hot here in the summer,maybe the beaver have to shed their heavier winter fur here.
Beaver are prone to hyperthermia here in the summer.If you snare one on land and it cant reach water in hot weather it will die in a short time.
I have taken the castors out of such beaver in the field and their bodies are so hot you can barely handle the thing when removing the castors.

There may be a little underfur there however it is flat goods. Scrape and stretch those pelts and you will see. Beaver don’t get decent here until mid to late December. Most semis are caught after first of January.

I've had that happen here a couple times. They got the drowner up on land and tangled. They were dead and hot to the touch.

Agree^^^ but the best thing going down here is to not waste your time fleshing and boarding them....if the current hatter market avgs hold up.

But, these flat pelts still have value....even summer caught.

Temps here...in Farenheit...we will be like this and hotter into at least early September....

No...both of those were caught last week.

I’ll say about 3/4 of my beaver were October/November and I still averaged $41. About 1/4 of them were 3x with the damaged one still getting $51. Form me it seemed the bigger the better, but mind you, the 1x select got $50.70

8 15 mark is info about felting beaver.

They do use southern beaver for fellt.our buyer...who is a huge player in the beaver market.... told us he bought at the same price but that when it's processed into felt there is a southern and a northern type felt.

And if there isn't a southern felt market why is southern beaver bringing the same price per.pound? And what are they doing with it?
