Are they in such low supply that they’ll try felting them, or a different way of felting, or some newer guy’s getting into the market? Swamp Wolf, those beavs were weighed or measured? Who can argue if they’re going to pay that? Take the money.

Those were rough sized into groups...typical GFW buying stop methods...or any other buyer for that matter .... No weighing or measuring. The beavs were skint, folded long-ways, and frozen...the way GFW prefers them.

We do have some northern beavers here in NC. Back in the 60's NC made some sort of a deal with PA for some beavers to stock our streams. Those beavers from PA were originally transplanted from Wisconsin. Those beavers I caught here brought top dollar when I use to ship to NAFA. I had some go as high as $88 in the early 1990's. After all those years, they still have the nice fur. Those type of beavers may be the ones that brought $30-$32. Paul, I sold to the fellow that QBD is referencing. Sold my beavers stretched and dried. He doesn't grade the beaver, just pays a set rate depending on the size I sold him some pretty rough blanket beaver for $38. Lots of bites, very coarse/thin fur on the stomach, etc etc. They don't care what the fur looks like, they only care what the size is To quote him directly when I handed him the first blanket pelt that came from a rough pregnant female "This is the roughest one yet, but it doesn't matter in this market"
Gotta live up to the nickname...

it might not matter to him but it will matter to some new player in austrailia when they find out some of the beaver they ended up with has no underfur to make felt. That kind of thing gives the fur industry a bad name.Basically why there is no otter market today.new players were buying junk otter mixed in with good ones, then after they became aware of what happened they tried to avg down by smuggling them into China, and were caught, putting an end to the otter market. The thing with the daali lama pedo was smoke.

The one picture you posted showed very thin and short underfur-basically nothing.compared to a semi or hvy prime pelt. If they are selling mixed in with those for the same price, someone is getting the shaft. I can show you a pic of a hvy felting beaver with at least double the length of underfur and 5 times the thickness than the one pic you showed. And you are the Mr know it all you dont accept the top felter aand beaver grader on the video nor the science from the WFMC,I guess you know more than them,LOLOL

I will say that northern beavs (when prime) should command a lot more $$ than any deep southern US beav.....but it's not that way right now. Some northern put up averages are similar to southern frozen averages. You northerners might be getting shorted.
GFW is not fooling their international clients by sneaking in flat beaver. How long have they been in business?
The otter market is not/has not been influenced by an influx of low grade pelts. How do you convince yourself of such?

I'm not implying that the beav pelt in the above pics is a semi or a heavy. Where did I say that? But that beaver has enough underfur to be very marketable....(see the above sales sheet.) I'm sorry that you are hung on outdated info (the market has no doubt shifted) and that you are getting shorted on the true value of your beaver. These southern beavs are very marketable...whether you like it or agree with it or not.

It has nothing to do with me being shorted it is the end user that winds up being shorted and that hurts all of us down the road. If you think a summer beaver makes the same amount of felt as a semi or hvy you are a kookoo. You are also kookoo if you think the physiology of fur growth becomes outdated, lol.

You are correct dirt, you will see that chit will come back to bite us. Everybody will ride the gravy train until it de rails. I agree. I remember talking to the FHA/receiving agent the year marten brought $200 average. Had a worthless damaged ( which I would normally toss ) go for $90. Got graded GD dmg. Should have been tail value. We both agreed somebody was going to be mad when they got that one.

You are normally sharper than this I'm not implying that the beav pelt in the above pics is a semi or a heavy. Where did I say that? I think you missed your wheaties-one does not have the same market value as the other for making felt. But they are being sold as such and someone is going to be upset down the road.

All my nuisance beaver spots are trapped out currently but next one I get i will incise a piece of the pelt and compare it side by side with an incised piece of fur from a winter beaver. There is a HUGE difference in the amount of felting material.

Maybe there is a positive in this. If end users are willing to pay $20 ( or whatever the final number is) for summer beaver with little felt underfur, just think what ours may be worth to them with 6 times the felt underfur next year. So far, a beaver is a beaver.
