I looked it up late in the war they used wood in stead of metal because of shortage of materials. Looks like it could be Navy by the anchor.

Thanks guys. My wife had me look up the alphabet and the numbers. The back are numbers 2313. The alphabet is a little more difficult. 3 Alphabets in the Japanese language. Thank you very much.

I have a Jap Arisaka rifle that would look cool with that displayed next to it.

I have been off and on studying Japanese and all I can tell you is that those numbers are right. Why the "Q", I dont know and the kanji is probably a family name, I am just guessing......jk

One might try to contact an embassy see if they could follow up finding a family.

Kanji is the spelling ?? Thanks. ok. Q stands for the ship. They where heavily armored ships. Disguised as merchant ships. Trying to lure subs to surface to engage. Wow TMan family has a lot of knowledge on here. 160. I am going to keep it. But if I change my mind. You will be the first to know. Many thanks to everyone.
