Have you read any good books recently? List the title and author so the rest of us can enjoy these good books. I have not seen a good book thread on trapperman recently so I figured why not?

I enjoy the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Cussler, certainly not literature but good for summer reading

Rawicz. The Long Walk.
A war prisoner escapes a Russian gulag, walks south through Mongolia and the Gobi desert, then contends with the Himalayan Mtns. To put in perspective, like walking from Fairbanks to Mexico City. Good read.

Life In The Rocky Mountains, by Warren Ferris

First person account of beaver trapping in the Rockies in the 1830s. Much more poetically written than many of the mountain man journals as Ferris was pretty well formally educated.

Two books I enjoyed. American Buffalo by Steven Renella, and Day 29 about an annual high school canoe trip in Canada. You will enjoy both I guarantee.

I just finished Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I enjoyed it enough to order The Streets of Larado, the next in the series of four.

I'm currently reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo. My copy is a verbatim reproduction of the original 1833 English translation. It can be slow reading at times. I started it a year or more ago and have read many books in between getting back to Quasimodo.

Eh...wot?

I’ve read all the McMurty westerns. Didn’t read Terms of Endearment. Dead Man Walking will tire you out.

I just finished "Dents Run Gold". It's by Pat and Dan Schlimm. It's a fictional tale with some factual things thrown in. It's about a shipment of gold being transferred from Wheeling West Virginia to Philadelphia. The had to take a northern route because of the battle that was getting ready to fire up at Gettysburgh.

They supposedly just dug up the buried gold near here. Whether they actually found it or not is up for debate, but the FBI is fighting tooth and nail to keep the records sealed. I just know that when they were digging they had the little village shutdown, and you couldn't drive on the roads around where they were digging.

I've been working on Journal of a Trapper, by Osborne Russell that someone recommended on one of these threads but it's slow reading for me. Pages of writing about them moving so many miles in this direction or that direction over that hill or that river interspersed with a paragraph of action here and there.

So took a break from it and reading "The Complete Mushroom Hunter" which is a really good book on mushroom hunting if you're wanting to get started in that.

Before that I read a Patrick McManus book, Rubber Legs and White Tail-Hairs.

Before that, The Old Man and the Boy by Robert Ruark, and the sequel to it. The first one was better than the sequel, but aren't they always?

Proudly banned from the NTA.

Bother me tomorrow. Today I'll buy no sorrows.

South: The Endurance Expedition by Ernest Shackleton

https://www.amazon.com/South-ENDURANCE-Expedition-Ernest-Shackleton/dp/0451198808/ref=sr_1_1?crid=23QT0OPK1GLTG&keywords=south+the+endurance+expedition&qid=1688811991&s=books&sprefix=south+the+Endu%2Cstripbooks%2C121&sr=1-1

There are a lot of picks about this expedition but this is the one written by the leader of it. I have read it several times and it never disappoints.
