Couldn’t post a link for it. I PVRed it and finally got a chance to watch it last night. Pretty interesting. Classic political/money stuff behind it. It’s on Prime too. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/06/full-56418-179754-img_0129.jpeg)

I didn't ever consider ticks may be spreading CWD:

The only thing more overblown than CWD was Covid. So stupid the millions that have been thrown at CWD. Ridiculous. And they don’t know anymore about it today than when it appeared. Natures way of thinning the herd IMO

I read somewhere that the prions can survive the digestive tracts of buzzards/ crows, so that seems like an unstoppable means of spreading. Creeping closer to me every year.

Significant difference between mad cow and CWD. Also, recent studies have found evidence of cwd resistant deer numbers increasing. Good article in Peterson's hunting . Both transmissable spongiform encephalopathies, no? Creutzfied- Jacobs? As well as scapies? What are the differences? Will try to find Peterson article, thanks Found it. From Part 1 ( re CWD) "But where did it come from? No one really knows with certainty. But Brian Murphy, a wildlife biologist with HuntStand, says it was first described in 1967 at the Colorado State research facility. He says that facility had a prior history of housing sheep in the same location as they housed deer. “The TSEs — of which scrapie is one, mad cow, CWD, etc. — that family of prion diseases is known to mutate and occasionally jump species,” Murphy said. “But we don’t know, and likely will never know, where CWD came from. I think the prevailing theory is that it mutated from scrapie in sheep."

If you're a biologist then please forgive me, but if your info has been learned the same way that mine has...by reading what others have written, then you, like me, really are not 100% sure if a human can contract this from eating affected venison. Mad Cow, Scrapie, CJD, and CWD are all similar in that they are prion diseases. All CURRENT guidelines are to NOT eat venison of known CWD-positive deer. In a lab setting, monkeys were fed/injected prions from/in venison and they contracted CWD. So, is it ultimately possible? I pray that I never bring home venison and cause the death of my family or myself.

How far can a carrion eating eagle fly before it poops? There is no stopping this at this point but the DNR and "concerned" politicians will never stop throwing money at it. The CWD bureaucracy will live forever.

There is no stopping it. Some deer show no effects from it until they are older...4, 5, 6 year old.
We were told as GWs (during in-service trainings) that CWD will move 1.5 miles on avg per year without any assistance from other species.

In the PH article, it mentions that some are claiming to see CWD resistant deer in some captive herds. IF it turns out to be real, may be useful.in eventual restocking somewhere way down the line. Im.just wondering if they are resistant TO the disease itself, or just its effects.

From my understanding there's no tried and true method of eliminating it from an area once it's in the soil. I'm very careful when cutting my venison. The biologists I've talked to say not to sever the spinal cord or to get bone marrow on the meat, as that is where it is stored in the bodies.

Many agencies have realized that, despite throwing money at it along with trying to kill every deer in a buffer area, that there is no way to contain this.

I pray that I never bring home venison and cause the death of my family or myself. Is that the same study where they injected the prions into the monkeys' brains then tested them and found the presence of prions? Fact is people have been eating deer infected with CWD for 60 years since we've know about it, and probably longer than that. Statistically there's about a 25% infection rate in the heart of CWD zone in SW WI, and only 3,000 of the 15,000 deer harvested in Richland, Sauk and Iowa counties were tested for CWD. That's thousands of CWD positive deer that are sitting in people's freezers right now.
