I have read all the Mcmanus books and found them all entertaining. I have a complete set at home and another at camp.

The Old Man and the Boy is in my top ten favorite books of all time.

The true life biography of our most beloved world traveled biologist. You won't be able to put it down , once you begin.

Also, a glimpse into the right side of his brain , in artistic far-north poetry. A very neat reminiscence feel , in style, of Robert Service.

Shelves should always have room for everyone's books....and if it isn't long enough for yours, then it needs to be torn down and rebuilt to hold yours. Predominately.

Don't argue with me . wink

I posted about this when it came in the first of June, but I haven’t had time to finish it. Real good so far!

I just read Newt Sterlings "Snaring for survival" and "Natural Leather Tanning" by Markus Klek
I recommend both. Still working on "A history of the fur trade." By James Hanson.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

If you really read this book, it'll take you a year and your brain will probably explode with all the information. I think the best book ever published for the North American trapper.

Osborne Russel's kinda bland isn't he. Like reading War And Peace.
Journal of A Trapper is truly a journal and not a narrative.

"We went there and trapped a couple months,
then we went over here and trapped till freeze up.
Then we wintered with Meek east of the Big Horns and shot some buffalo".

He was all about the facts and did not show much human emotion.
If you read his book along with others you'll see he was right in the middle of it all though.
Probably as good a trapper and plainsman as any but not one of those people that can tell an interesting and colorful story.
And, maybe smart enough to realize he'd had his fun and got back to the settlements before his scalp was attached to some Blackfoot Warriors lodge pole.

Here's a good mountain man book for you. Very good read and not as dry as Journal of A Trapper :

Life In The Far West by George Ruxton. It's so old it's public domain and you can read it online if you don't want to buy a copy.

The author is a Maine guide and hunter. I like these old books, they are interesting reads but most of the data is irrelevant by today's standards.

I bet you can, and have!

I was just bored during Covid and muddled through it. There will be no sequel!

Reading the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. Good books for those of you who like mil-scifi. And threw the Encyclopedia of Lure and Bait Making by Kellen Kaatz in there in the middle of it.
