There should be a law that makes scamming a capitol Offense. I just had a woman call today and claim that I had a Capital One Credit card years ago and I owed 2100.00 and they had bought this debt and I needed to give him 1100.00 off of my bank card within the hour or she would wreck my Credit. I told her I needed a statement mailed to me with proof that there was a debt because I have NEVER owned a Capitol Credit Card. Then she told me they could not send a Statement until AFTER I paid the 1100.00. Again she claimed it must be paid within an hour!!! I told her to call me back. Then I called the States Attorney General and like I thought they informed me it was a scam and that it is Illegal to get money without FIRST sending a certified letter. When she called back I told her what they told me and that they had her number. I checked an hour later and surprise that number is no longer working!!!
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

They often spoof the number it looks like they are calling from they are not connected to the number that comes up on your phone. If it’s not millions of dollars nothing will be done about it anyways. Now cheat the Government then they have a different outlook on things.

If it's not a phone number I know I don't answer. If they leave a message you can tell if it's a scam or not. In all my life I've never talked to one of those people. Don't aggravate yourself and do the same.

g It's unwise to talk to them at all, and calling them back is an even worse idea. Even if you don't give them any information, they will record and sample your voice, especially if you answer yes or no questions, and may use the recording for fraud with voice recognition systems, e.g. when talking to your bank, since voice recognition is becoming more common in semi-automated customer support services. Plus they will list you in their gullible citizens databases, which are a very real thing, and aggregation/sale of such lists is a very profitable industry Scammers are currently way more inventive and technically advanced over here and in Ukraine than in the US/Canada. Actually, since the beginning of the war, it's normal to get up to several scammer calls a day, some of which are very realistic and even mimic short numbers of various state services and big banks on caller ID. Some are from Ukrainian scammers (they are said to be working both for the government and independently), and some are from scammers that are said to be working for Russian criminal organizations run by corrupt law high-ranked enforcement officials. All telecom services are significantly cheaper here than in the US so it's normal for most people to have multiple cell phone numbers/Internet plans, and it's amazing how fast scammers will get your information after you leave it in association with a freshly acquired phone number while shopping or dealing with various municipal or federal agencies, e.g. when you pay fees or you leave your number/data in a big store to get a discount. If I want a discount, I usually leave a fake name and/or put errors in personal data, plus I have a separate phone number for all such things. It's supposed to be common knowledge but still LOTS of people get scammed because some of these calls are very believable and intimidating (people presenting as federal investigators, debt collectors, etc, knowing your full name and ID data). good info from the know

Don't aggravate yourself and do the same. If it goes to voice mail, they know it’s a working number and I get more calls. If I don’t recognize the number, I answer and hang up as fast as I can. I believe this tells the server auto dialing that my number no longer works and I don’t get more spam calls. Friends call back right away.

On the off chance I do actually answer a call from a number I don't know (usually a local number......so in theory could be someone legit) and it is one of the more sophisticated scammers......when they ask something that is a yes or no question........I answer "orange" or "grasshopper" or some other nonsense that a voice recognition software won't figure out. It they don't understand and ask again.........click.

Don't aggravate yourself and do the same. That's a good idea according to our local sheriff for that reason. He also claims if you answer, they often will sell your number as an active number to other organizations.
Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.
