I have a set from MTP, and they look a LOT like pliers. Now....I have no clue how to use them, so I bought the regular kind (which work great). I'd post a link to what I have (the heavy duty kind) but I can't get to MTP from this computer.

I open mine with my cable cutters, very easy to do if you get the right angle on it. (not cutting them, opening them) Close them with some slip joint pliers. I have to carry the cable cutters on my line anyway, so the addition of a small pair of slip-joint pliers is no big deal. Ron's look to be heavy duty to do the trick. I believe I'd forgo the hose on the handles and dip them in that rubber grip making stuff. http://jayme220.proboards53.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=videos&thread=135&page=1~ADC~

As an old fart in residence, at age 66, I have putzed around this trapping tool "J hook, "S" hook thingy in my trances over time looking for a tool that would save me some time in the tenderings in this regard.
This unit on exhibit in disclosure, pictures and all, appears to be able to "holdem and foldem, but I do not recognize a provision on the front of it to open one. Did I miss something?

Place the tips of the open jaws in the eye of the J Hook or S hook. Close the handles on the tool and it will ramp the rivit open. Directions come with the tool.

I added a link to my last post showing that. They look like just the ticket for guys who need to open and close a lot Ron. Nice job! ~ADC~
