X2! If it's worked, and it has, for well over a Century then those apposed can stuff it. To (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) with the CDC, USDA, etc. My Mama give me her first canning book from 1953, it's a whole lot different then now. There's a reason for that.

Never could eat them. Remember them in the bars. I just drank Busch. Was not an egg person. Scrambled for me my Mom loved pickled pigs feet. That’s great you all like them. Taste buds have changed but have not got there yet. May yet. Heck I like kipper snacks in mustard always liked them with horseradish in oil

The best thing about eating pickled eggs is farting in an enclosed space full of people, like an elevator or work truck, etc.

I'm pretty sure I would have eaten them eggs too. I found a jar of my mothers grape jelly once was 10 years old. Seal was still good when I opened it was no rush on lid. So I tried it. Didn't have that nice grape flavor or dark purple color. Didn't suck and didn't make me sick but no real reason to eat anymore either. I used it and some others on bear baits.
I did have a jar of pickled northern on my back porch last winter that froze. When I tried that after I thawed it. Ended up dumping it. That was more about texture that taste. Fish was mushy.

You guys who do Quail eggs<

It seems that they would be tiresome to peel those little things,

I have seen Quail Egg Peelers on Amazon, But do they work??

Please share any hints or methods.

My Brother is getting started with Quail, They have 50 I believe. 5 weeks old as I remember.

Never seen or tried a quail egg peeler. But for pickling them, what you want to do is boil them and cool them. Then with the shells still on, completely cover them with white vinegar and leave them set overnight. The vinegar will dissolve the shell, leaving just the membrane which is easily peeled off the next morning.

Whats it cost (approximate) to hatch the eggs, raise the birds for butchering?

I never figured it out but not much as they're ready for butchering after 6 weeks. A quick glance on ebay showed 133 eggs for $65 shipped. Probably get them even cheaper if you can find some locally. Each bird will eat about .5oz of food a day. So doing some quick math... a hundred birds would eat 50oz of food a day. So a bag of food would last 16 days. So three bags of food will do it.

At about $16 a bag of feed... times 3.... figure close to $50 in feed. $115/100 birds = about $1.15 a bird.

I keep around 15 or so (2 males, the rest hens) so I can hatch bunch to eat whenever I want them. Not big on all day butchering projects so would much rather butcher 20 or so at a time versus 100+ all at once.
