Myself and three buddies drew Wyoming mule deer tags for region Y. The three of them have hunted region R a couple time in the past with moderate success. This will be my first time hunting Mule deer. Our plan was to go to R where they had hunted in the past but we drew region Y as our third choice. We are planning on being out there for the opener on Oct 15th, and maybe a few days early to scout. As none of us have been in this area before, has anyone hunted this unit before or have and tips on where to start looking for mule deer mid- late October? We’re four hardworking guys that are going to put the miles on the boots to give it our best shot but any starting points would be very helpful, especially to me coming from the whitetail hardwoods.

Find out how bad the winter kill was. Been hearing a lot of doom and gloom about the deer herd in many parts of Wyoming

Ah yes the Bighorns! Lots of public land and people. If your willing to pack in, you will have a good chance of connecting with a good one.

SW Wyoming got clobbered along with NW Colorado this winter. Biggest group of elk I've seen migrating this spring was four, and not many since. Central Wyoming was not hit as bad but I hear it was hard hit around Riverton. NW Colorado is a disaster for Elk, deer and antelope.
