Or it this younger generation getting even worse? So a couple houses from a gal who works for me is a house with 4 women and 2 men living there. No edit button - even when they are outside in the yard. People don't show up for work. The ones that do are late and want to leave early and are big cry babies. I'm getting so sick of this. And they want to work form home - how does that work when it is a construction job? Sorry for the rant.

Just passin through

I think every generation has been sure the next one is dragging us straight to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). Might actually be true now.
On the other hand, there are still a lot of decent, hard working young people out there. Sometimes you gotta look hard to find them, but they are there.

I was fortunate enough to hire a couple young folks while I still had some seasoned employees. The young guys reminded the seasoned folks what it was like to be young and the seasoned folks passed along the wisdom of seasoning. Worked out pretty good.

My wife on the other hand is struggling with her youthful team. Drives her crazy. lol

2x. Agreed but a quick story. A month ago a 15 yr old pulls into my driveway on a by cycle looking for odd job. I know the grandparents. From my house I can’t see anyone else’s building. Very low population density. Town is 62 sq. miles, 880 residents. I said I need some weed whacking done he could show up th next morning at 8:30. He shows up the next day early WITH his own trimmer AND a gal. of gas. Polite kid and a worker. If anyone ask if I know anyone good my answer will be NO.

That's nonsense.

I work from home most of the time. I'm 52. I know a lot of hardworking guys that work from home exclusively...all in their 50's.

As a supervisor for an electrical contractor that does commercial and industrial I see this younger generation being the death of some companies. The job I’m currently doing is a school right at 3 million dollar electrical job I’ve had up to 20 guys a one time over the past month. The young American kids I’ve had I would not pay them $2.00 dollars a hour if it was up to me they are worthless. I had 3 of them sorting materials the other day which I thought was a very easy job but I found out apparently it’s not as easy as I thought , those idiots took all of it and piled it up on 2 pallets about chest high and mixed everything up in boxes which made it very hard to find anything . After I spend a hour the next morning looking for some fitting I lost my #*%> and chewed them out and explain everything again very simple on a kindergarten level they still didn’t understand what I was talking about , I have only one left now after that stunt . The younger supervisor we have coming up in there upper 20’s are just as bad they will not lift a hand to do anything they are just a finger pointer .

Speaking of construction jobs,I worked on a scale job (@ a school) and
one of the electrician was from a African country. Seems our country
was training them @ our expense and sending them over here and finding
good jobs for them. This guy was very lazy and new he would not be laid-off.

I'm confused about that last sentence.

I don’t want to share him! I asked and he has enough work now. He’s showing cattle at the county fair next week.

When I read some of these posts I wonder why everyone is blaming “kids” or anyone else. Sounds like a leadership problem. If a leader doesn’t lead, how will employees know what to do?

As far as working from home, that all depends on what your job is. If you’re in construction, then nope, there’s no way to get anything built from home. If your job is on a computer or phone, then yes, you can probably accomplish more from home than going into an office every day. My DIL started working from home after her first promotion. She’s still working from home and has been given another promotion. She does travel a few times a month, but most of her work can be done from a computer and through web based applications.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

Have a friend who owns a textile mill in SC. Says orders are down and he is running only four days per week. Employee turnover is the lowest ever. People do want benefits but do not want hours.

Apparently you have a valuable skill set, and the motivation required to get the work done. Hardly the norm for too many of the younger generations.
