Good on you. Just keep yourself busy at your own pace and don’t live in your recliner watching the TV. Now it’s your turn to do what you want. Been retired 10 years and never looked back.

Nice job. Nice job. I can retire from teaching in about 22 months. Now that it is really within sight I have thought about teaching one more year after that. I have had my other kids in class and one more would let me teach the youngest for a year. Have fun.

How do you not know when you’re retirement eligible, lol? If your Union you should have a contract book of some sort. I was technically eligible 2 years ago, but I think I’ll stay for another 7-10 years if things stay as they are. I’m not in a job that can kill me. In fact, I don’t even stress over anything anymore, lol. My only issue is getting enough sleep from playing all night.

I really enjoyed my job and career and could have stayed on longer, but by saving and living within our means I was financially able to consider leaving after 31 years at 60.5 years. Within a year found a part time job that averaged 24-28 hours a week for 5.5 years. I have learned to enjoy retirement and it is amazing the number of options that open up for one. Most of my hobbies involve a lot of physical work as well as planning etc. so that keeps me active and I feel like I am working even though I am not driving down anyone's driveway.

Congrats on your retirement Randall. I've hit 20 years of retirement this year. I went out at 62 hoping I would make it to 80... well, I am 2 years past that and still going, but not as strong as I would like too. I think in some ways I have accomplished more since I retired than when I was working.

Yes, but. Your heart will always still be in explosives and mining. And you will always care about and wonder for men who are still employed in your profession.

It's like, once a Marine-always a Marine...or police, doctor, biologist, etc. You will never lose interest in what's happening. And I believe that's good. At some point, once in a while, someone will think of you when they really need help in good experienced info. You're just the guy for them to ask.

So now you have the best of both worlds. Your happiness pursued, into the next chapters of life, and still being there for your men when they're up against the wall and need good advice.

Now. Ride those horses like ya stole 'em.
